"Most all of us could not read the 1611 version. "

I don't think I'd agree with that. Even the older Geneva Bible is not that difficult.

"Can anyone get a copy of the 1611 in print or electronically?"

Here's a copy of one page. When you understand how the form of the letters has changed (particularly the 's'), it isn't that difficult.

For help on understanding the 1611 version, see material here: http://www.bible-researcher.com/canon10.html

For those who find the 1611 Bible too modern, there are PDFs of the Geneva Bible here (with modern letterforms).

I myself believe that the KJV Bible is the infallible word of God. Never changing good in what every time of the world’s history.

It's a shame God waited a millenium-and-a-half to share it with us.

I actually checked out a few KJV sites and while I'm sure there are a spectrum of opinions on this translation, some of the sites come dangerously close to idolatry (and self-parody).

Don't you mean it is a shame it took that long before men like Martin Luther decided that the common man should have the Word in their hands and not controlled by the Church. KJV is just a translation into English with. I believe it is as close to the Greek and Hebrew we are going to get with the words that have a visual in your mind when read.

I haven't looked at the Aeneid since it was required in high school. Can you recommend a good translation?

If people really wanted to get the truth unvarnished by translators, they would get off their duffs and learn the Greek. IMHO. Then they could join the scholars in arguing about word nuance in the original, rather than why a scholar in 1611 picked this English word to translate that Greek term, and what it's true meaning in contemporary Modern English would be.

I'm not sure why this is being turned into an "evil Church/noble Reformers" debate, but this myth has been debunked several hundred times on FR.

Actually, Martin Luther was rather late to the party. The reason why ownership of Bibles was restricted was that there were movements in the late 12th century and early 13th centuries that taught errors - the same errors taught by the heresies of the first three centuries and the very same ones espoused by many protestant sects today (in fact they mirror each other) - caused by misinterpreting scripture. The canon was set in place to protect the flock from error and heresy. It was not done out of spite, but love. Scripture is interpreted, for us, by Tradition. Throw Tradition out, and you get into all sorts of trouble.

It's about the only argument there is and it doesn't hold water in the light of history.

Perception is reality. Doesn't matter much what the truth is. This is why teaching the truth is so important.

Sorry, C -- I like the KJV, but I seriously doubt that I'm going to hell for not using it as my main study Bible.

Never said any one is going to Hell for a particular translation of the Bible. My point is that the NIV publisher is a branch of a publisher that produces the Satanic Bible and porn. Also the other translations have there weakness in the play down of words that give you a mental picture of the scripture. Also some even play down homosexually.
