No they weren't inspired and neither is the Pope. And yes, they could have been wrong just as the Pope could be.
Ok, so none of the Apostles, Saints, Church fathers, Patriarchs, Popes etc. or even Luther, Calvin, etc. were inspired. Not even the founders of the Baptist and Methodist congregations, eh?
So, are you the only one who is/was inspired?
