Braveheart was not historically accurate eother.

The play and the movie attempts to cast William Jennings Bryan, perhaps one of the country’s best lawyers and politicians

Well he practised very little so yes one of the best lawyers.

Politician: One term in Congress?

No Bryan was basically a writer and publisher of a liberal newspaper.

No, Bryan was very much a politician, a very effective public speaker, and a fierce campaigner. He invented the modern presidential campaign (and he served 2 terms in Congress, not one). He was a bridesmaid rather than a bride on the presidential scene, but he was extremely popular among the Democrat/populist/N. Central/Granger crowd and he got a lot closer to being elected president than you would think. He served as Secretary of State under Wilson.

And he wasn't a bad lawyer either, he had about ten years of practice under his belt before he ran for congress. Very few lawyers are courthouse rats . . . Darrow however was definitely one, although as a person he was pretty reprehensible.
