The purpose seems to be that the Scriptures are in competition with the "authority" of the RCC and must be undermined so as to enhance the position of the hierarchy.
I can see not other reason for the centuries-long attack.

This doesn't make sense to me. Holy Tradition and Holy Scripture support each other.

If you look at authoritative teachings of the Church --- Ecumenical Council documnts, encyclicals, catechisms, statements from Synods of Bishops --- you will not find any attack on Scriptures.
Explanation or documentation, please?
