I read something a couple months ago about another guy who did the same thing...I think he was Prebyterian.
I don't think it's that unusual for a guy who spent time in the military to try to become a Chaplain after ordination. Military men also seem to make good Clergy too.
I was a Field Artillery officer for 19 years (including 19 months in Viet Nam) before becoming a chaplain (10 years)...and I loved it.
