You are correct, however, in this day when the Pope has apologized for atrocities committed by the early Catholic Church, it would be nice to see the LDS hierarchy come forward, accept the blame, and publicly apologize. I think their continued denial of involvement has only added to the flame.
I can't argue with you there.
But I don't think the Pope should have issued a blanket apology for the Crusades. As a matter of fact, I think we could a few regiments of Templars right about now.
Well, of course, it could just be because the church was NOT officially involved or sanctioned the actions and that it WAS a rogue group of Mormons reacting to the fact that some of these pioneers were bragging to the Mormons that they had proudly taken part in the mob murders, rape and pillaging of Mormons back in Missouri.
What would you do if a man came near your property, saw you and said:
Hey, Bill, I raped your wife and burned your home. I'm gonna do it again to you and all you devil Mormons.
Inasmuch as the alleged ringleader of the massacre, Bishop Pike, was actually tried, convicted and executed by the Mormons themselves what the LDS would have to apologize about is a mystery to me. This should remain in the past, as it had already been dealt with, as fairly as it could be...
the infowarrior
The church teaches about this in Church History classes. They do not try to hide it.
The guy responsible was arrested by a Mormon Sheriff, appeared before a Mormon Judge, was convicted by a Mormon jury and went to jail.
What more do you want.
Not one person was prosecuted for the Haun Mill Massacre, or the murders that took place when the Mormons were expelled from the Illinois city of Nauvoo.
The extermination order given by Missouri Governor Boggs, where Mormons could be shot on sight, was only repealed about ten years ago.
Everyone involved in all these are long dead.
Get a life.
