Fr James Cavanagh, chaplain to Colorado University in Boulder, Colorado, has announced his decision to leave the Episcopal Church and enter into full communion with the Catholic Church. Please keep Fr Cavanagh and his family in your prayers.
Dear friends,
I just wanted to let you know that my last Sunday as chaplain of EMCUB will be December 4. I will be entering into communion with the Catholic Church before Christmas.
I am a cradle Episcopalians and have been a priest for 17 years, so this isnt a step that I take lightly, believe me. It has been said that the Episcopal Church is a bridge between Catholicism and Protestantism, and so it is. But bridges are meant to be crossed. Certainly the turmoil of ECUSA brought about by the determined, and unabashed revisionist juggarnaught was a factor in my decision. But the attraction of the Catholic Church far outweighs any negative feelings I might have toward the Episcopal Church. All of us desire the unity that our Lord prayed for. My becoming Catholic is simply my way of answering that prayer. I am entering more fully, more completely into the Church that our Lord established. I could no longer continue in a church that has turned its back on time and time again on its Catholic heritage.
I hope to be able to stay in Boulder. My first priority is to find a job. We are able to stay in the house until the end of May, along with my health benefits and I will continue to receive my salary until the end of March, which I think is a fair settlement. Many thanks for the care and support that youve shown me over the last few years.
Blessings and peace,
James Cavanagh
Sounds like the Episcopal Church left this priest a while ago and he is taking the next logical step.
Is he losing his job because he became a Catholic? That would seem to be discrimination.
This is true of all Protestantism. It has Catholicism in its genes.
But, but, but . . . I thought Bishop Robinson said that the evil Pope Ratzinger is driving loads of people AWAY FROM the Roman Catholic Church!
I'm with you, 'hand!
Today, people who seek truth, join the Catholic Church. Those who want to see their sin accepted, leave.
I would not be unhappy to see some of our priests go the other way.
