Abolish that hand shaking nonsense during mass completely! Save it for the parking lot after mass!

It would appear that this applies only to the western church. The eastern churches have different practices. I think the Maronites do exchange the sign of peace with the congregation, but starting with the celebrants and spreading from there.

In other eastern Catholic churches, shaking hands is generally reserved for before and after Divine Liturgy. It's not part of the liturgy, except (I think) if there are co-celebrants, then the sign of peace is exchanged by them.
