Catholics, are you currently in a Bible Study group?

We have become too secularized and too busy reading complex theology -- the ideas of others about the Bible, or about the ideas of previous theologians about the Bible -- instead of the Bible itself.

Bingo!!

"AT ROOT OF CATHOLIC PROBLEMS IS LACK OF BIBLICAL SPIRITUALITY"

The remedy is the book it is all based on. The Church is in desperate need of biblical spirituality.

Remember what I said a few months back, about how perhaps the hoped-for reunion might occur in our lifetimes?

Hmmmm......

Nope. For me, the 'study' part of that phrase has some unfortunate connotations. As in people telling me Matthew 'put words' in Jesus' mouth because of his intended audience. Jesus didn't actually say that, you see.

But I read it every day alone and in groups and I believe God speaks directly to us in the words of Scripture. Just like the Church teaches us.

I would prefer a nice Lectio Divina group. But, as the Pope points out, those are few and far between.

I think we have some comments here based on the assumption that Pope Benedict is propounding some 'new' teaching.

I think what he is saying is our problem is that some do not adhere to what the Church has always taught. And some have no idea what the Church actually teaches.

The good news is that most towns have more than a single Catholic parish. If your's does not stress the Bible, then you can likely find one that does!

It would be nice to settle on one translation. I prefer the older translations. Most bible studies use the new ones and I think that some translators took some liberties. It would be nice to know Greek and Hebrew and read it in the original to know for sure.

I just started a 24 week time line based Catholic Bible Study last night. Usually I would go to a Pentecostal Bible study but I have now found a new bible study home. It was great to be able to fellowship with other Catholics who believe in the Sacraments, and pray the Rosary. I enjoyed my old bible study but it would make me upset when people would tell me that I wasn't saved and my baptism was invalid.

God willing, I will lead a unique Bible Study group soon - a Gregorian chant schola.

Practically all of the texts of the Gregorian chants (Introit, Gradual, Alleluia/Tract, Offertory, Communion) are taken directly from Scripture.

Granted, we will not study very much of the Bible during our study sessions (a.k.a. rehearsals), but those texts will be ingrained deeply into the consciousness of the singers.

Please pray for the success of this effort.

Oh Hell no! Last thing I need is to hear some idiot babbling on, misinterpreting the Bible to fit their own fruity theology. No thank you, no no no no no!

Well, the Pope will have a chance to put his money where his mouth is when the UK bishops' attack on Biblical inerrancy is placed before him for approval. And while I generally admire this pontiff I must admit I am not optimistic on this issue. It's one thing to attack Darwinism, quite another to say the Bible in completely inerrant.

Catholics, are you currently in a Bible Study group?

I hope not! Catholic Bible studies tend to be right out of German higher criticism. Better to not read it at all than to rip it apart.

What is very common in many denominations, including the Catholic church, is we have taken the super natural outta God.

You ask people in the church if they believe in angels and they say, "certainly". Ask if they believe in dark spirits or demons and whatch'em cringe, become uncomfortable, change the subject and so forth.

satan is real, his demons are real, his influence on people to do evil things is very real. Christians need to learn more about or at the very least be aware of the spiritual battle going on around them.

Think about this one. What better way would satan attempt to tear down God's church? From within of coarse. All churches are being attacked by the enemy, no matter the denomination.

The reason I say this is, I feel the Pope is right on the money---well kinda. If you get away from the truths found in the bible, the body has a tendency to drift off center. When this happens, it opens the door for the enemy to attack.

Why would there be such a huge scandal involving priest? Why would it be perpetrated on the innocent? Ordination of openly homosexual priest and bishops, universalism, secular humanism, eastern mysticism, so on and so on.

It is an attempt to muddy up the waters for the faithful. Pedophile priest, now that's evil! But there is a bigger picture here. satan uses situations of weakness in these priest to cause distrust within the church, thus inhibiting the Great Commission. Attack the innocent, it leaves a scar for a lifetime and many never return to the body of Christ after the experience, thereby causing the body to become inhibited.

Ordination of woman, gays and so forth. This is a smoke screen to keep the body off kilter. Cause the body to fight and squabble with each other, thus causing the Lord's work to be inhibited.

Arguments about theological matters between denominations is nothing more than a distraction for Christ's church. As long as Jesus is the center point of your life and you obey and keep to scripture, you are a Christian.

I realize there will be some who will respond to this post and flame the crud outta me, but I just have to bring this to the forefront. Not many people recognize or give any credence to spiritual warfare. The ol classic battle of good and evil.

It is satan who seeks to steal as many souls from God as he can, it is up to us with the inspiration and protection of the Holy Spirit to win'em back.

Step back and look at the big picture--Christ Church is in crisis. Liberal revisionist in the Catholic and Protestant faiths seek to marginalize Holy Scripture. In other words make it appear as if the Bible really doesn't mean what it says. It's not all true, just a fairy tale with good intentions. These liberal revisionist or progressives, whatever name you wanna give them are active in every denomination and seek to water down God's word and inhibit the Great Commission. They are being used by the enemy and don't even know it.
