One of the keys that opens prophetic texts is the time element. Abrahams descendants were strangers in the land of Egypt where they would be enslaved and oppressed four hundred years (Gen. 15:13). This prophecy was fulfilled to the very day (Ex. 12:40). Joseph was told of seven years of plenty and seven years of famine (Gen. 45:6). Times of famine and plenty that follow these two seven-year intervals of time are irrelevant as a fulfillment of this prophecy. Israel was to remain in the wilderness for forty years, a year for each day that the spies spied out the land (Num. 14:3334). Subsequent forty-year periods of time are not a fulfillment of this prophecy. Israels captivity was seventy years in length, a year of captivity for each year of Sabbath rest violated (2 Chron. 36:21; Lev. 26:33). Based on this certain timetable of Gods binding word, Daniel prayed, petitioning God for the restoration of Israel to the land. To Daniels method of calculation, the seventy years were nearing their completion (Dan. 9:2).

Its important that every generation looks at theres as the last one.
ALLRIGHT!!!! Time to bash Hal Lindsey--and Greg Laurie BOW! BOOM! SMACK!! BOING!!!
Why? Because the "signs" are right? Or because we are to told to be prepared as a wise virgin awaiting the arrival of the bridegroom. "Occupy until I come." That was Jesus' command. Not, watch for signs of the rapture.
Actually, I would take somewhat of an issue with the idea that "it's important that every generation looks at theres as the last one." Our business is to be preparing the next generations to fulfill the command of God to "go into all the world" to make disciples.
"And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up." (Deut. 6:6,7) This is the legacy of the patriarchs. All the true sons of Abraham -- those who have trusted in Christ -- should be diligent in keeping these commands to prepare the next generation.
Hal Lindsey needs some bashing. I can't believe that any of my fellow Arminians are sucked up into his stuff.
As for Greg Laurie, he does seem to have made some very strange end times statements.
Colin.
