Prayer for today
9/5/05 | Knitting a Conundrum

Posted on 09/05/2005 1:33:38 PM PDT by Knitting A Conundrum

O Lord,
there are moments that we don't understand
the chaos you present us with,
the darkness of the road ahead,
the pain and the suffering and grief.

In those moments when I want to scream out "Why me?"
let me hear your voice say "Why not you?"
and teach me  the right questions to ask,
how to be salt and light even when the darkness surrounds me,
how to say, "Where does it hurt?",
and "What can I do?"
and the hardest thing of all, "Help!"

May I this day, and always,
see Christ in those you put before me,
even when anger percolates through my heart
and I want to reach out and hit something,
even when tears touch my heart and eyes,
and I want to roll into a ball,
even when I have no answers,
except to remember you,
and the darkest of days,
and how you gave all.

O Lord,
teach me to love as you love,
this day and always,
Amen.

AMEN.

I am also reminded of the following Twila Paris song from years ago that seems very meaningful to me right now.

Do I Trust You Lord?

Sometimes my little heart can't understand
What's in Your will, what's in Your plan.
So many times I'm tempted to ask You why,
But I can never forget it for long.
Lord, what You do could not be wrong.
So I believe You, even when I must cry.
Do I trust You, Lord?
Does the river flow?
Do I trust You, Lord?
Does the north wind blow?
You can see my heart,
You can read my mind,
And You got to know
That I would rather die
Than to lose my faith
In the One I love.
Do I trust You, Lord?
Do I trust You?

I know the answers, I've given them all.
But suddenly now, I feel so small.
Shaken down to the cavity in my soul.
I know the doctrine and theology,
But right now they don't mean much to me.
This time there's only one thing I've got to know.

I will trust You, Lord, when I don't know why.
I will trust You, Lord, till the day I die.
I will trust You, Lord, when I'm blind with pain!
You were God before, and You'll never change.
I will trust You.
I will trust You.
I will trust You, Lord.
I will trust You.

I am so glad you posted this thread, Knitting A Conundrum. I am pinging all you other FReeper prayer warriors because Kitty Mittens has been your partner in prayer. She is ill. Her last post was on the 2nd and to me. I FReepmailed to find out how she was doing and her husband typed out her reply for her. I replied this morning and haven't heard back. I don't know what Kitty Mittens' illness is. I do know that she said she was "homesick for Heaven" a while back. I have been praying for her for the last two days, off and on, sometimes with tears of joy and sorrow mingled. All I know is that I love her, and that all she's ever done for us is pray and encourage, and that's what I want to do for her. May she or her husband find our posts addressed to Kitty Mittens.

Dear Father in Heaven, thank you for Kitty Mittens. Thank you that she is such a loving servant and so happy to do Your will. Thank you that she loves you so much and that this love spills over onto us here at Free Republic. Thank you, Lord Jesus Christ, for all Kitty Mittens' prayers in Your Name and for Your Glory. Thank you for her husband who has taken care of her in her time of need. Thank you that we can come before Your Throne on her behalf now.

I ask for your abundant grace and glory to be with her, in her, upon her, around her, and working through her. I ask that Jesus be there at her side and whispering His Word into her ear, into her heart, into her mind; rejoice over her with singing! I ask for an outpouring of love here for her in direct proportion to the love she has shown us. We are in her debt. We are debtors to love, the love you have shown us through Your Servant, our sister, Kitty Mittens.

O God Bless Our FRiend! Grant her strength to walk through this valley knowing You are There - Jehovah-Shammah.

Amen. O Lord, we thank you for the gifts you send us of loving people who touch our lives. Be with Kitty Mittens and her family at this time, and reach out to them with your healing and strengthening touch, heart, soul, and if it is your will, body, and in the end, bring us all, we who call you Lord, home to be with you. Amen.

Prayer Ping!

Please notify me via FReepmail if you would like to be added to or taken off the Prayer Ping List.

Also remember to pray for the priests who have died and the priests who are still missing in the affected Gulf Coast region.
