A Facilitator for the Listening Process on Human Sexuality is being sought by the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC) in London to comply with the 1998 Lambeth Conference Resolution 1.10 on Human Sexuality.
The position was advertised this week in London and seeks an individual familiar with the Anglican Communion and its instruments but who has no previous public alignment on the subject of human sexuality.
The advertisement, which has not appeared outside the United Kingdom, states the 1998 Lambeth Conference wished to establish a means of monitoring the work done on the subject of human sexuality in the Communion and to honour the process of mutual listening, including listening to the experience of homosexual persons and the experience of local churches around the world in reflecting on these matters in the light of scripture, tradition and reason.
The successful applicant will hold discussions with Anglican Provinces and other interested bodies on the subject of human sexuality and related issues and submit his findings to the ACC and the 2008 Lambeth Conference.
Canon James Rosenthal, director of the Anglican Communion News Service (ACNS) told The Living Church the facilitator would report to the Rev. Canon Kenneth Kearon, secretary general of the ACC.
Acting in response to the request in paragraph 17 of the primates February communiqué, the ACC Standing Committee presented a resolution to the delegates of ACC-13 on June 22 calling for the creation and monitoring of a listening process.
The ACC asked the secretary general to collect materials on homosexuality and human sexuality from the various provinces and other interested bodies within those provinces and make the materials available for study, discussion and reflection across the Communion and to report on this work to the Communion.
An amendment to the original resolution added the phrase other interested bodies so as to include groups not traditionally consulted by national Church offices such as ex-gay and gay ministries, advocacy groups and other para-church organizations, ACC delegate Stanley Isaac told TLC.
A what? ;)
If you don't know what this is -- you're better off not asking. Unless you're in desperate need of a soporific.
Steno-typist? I'd apply, but I have a weak stomach.
