Gee, how did I know these would be Episcopalian bishops from the subject line alone?

The persecution of Jesus didn't start with the government, but within the religious commununity. The persecution of Christians in America is beginning the same way. Even "People for the American Way" has been headed by so-called ministers.

Faith and Science Ping.

Given the flack I took for posting my last article, I post this one with a little trepedation. I know that the Episcopal Church does not have a repuatation orthodoxy, even a reputation for theological liberalism.

I post it nevertheless, because it seems interesting.

Curiosity's disclaimer: just because I post an article does not mean I fully agree with author or agree with any of the author's theological views.

While the petition affirms scripture as being “authoritative in matters of faith and practice,” it calls for a non-literal reading of the Bible as “Religious truth is of a different order from scientific truth. Its purpose is not to convey scientific information but to transform hearts.”

"the theory of evolution is a foundational scientific truth"

Since when? Foundational for what?

"The petition further rejects attempts to treat evolution as “one theory among others”"

So at least we know that this is dogmatic Darwinism, and not just people keeping an open mind. It sounds like these people are giving belief in evolution equal weight with belief in God. Which brings the next point:

"Religious truth is of a different order from scientific truth. Its purpose is not to convey scientific information but to transform hearts."

While it is true that they have different purposes, that does not mean that religion is non-factual. This is essentially what they are saying -- religion is a non-factual entity. Saying that evolution deals with facts while religion does not I think is idolatry. If you believe in God, then HIS ideas come BEFORE yours, not the other way around.

I am not relieved to find out that this is about soul-dead Episcopalian bishops.

I guess bishops can take a position on anything they wish to, but this isn't a position they are compelled to take.

Silence is better in this instance.

They have their wish. The theory of evolution is taught in every public school, whether the parents (who pay for it), teachers (who actually do it) or children (who are forced to learn it.)

In fact the victory of evolutionary theory in our public schools has been so complete that I wonder why they even see the need for such a petition. I can only conclude that at last the left feels the reigns of power loosening from their grasp, ever so slightly, and they don't like it.
