Posted on 08/26/2005 12:32:44 PM PDT by Macoraba

My suggestions are --->

One of Poland's patron saints

One of the patron saints of Europe

A patron saint of travellers

A patron saint of athletes

A patron saint of playwriters

A patron saint of linguists and translators

A patron saint of theologians

8/26/2005 VATICAN CITY (AP) - The editor of the Vatican newspaper said Thursday that Pope John Paul II was a "martyr" even though he survived a 1981 assassination attempt - the latest official comment suggesting a speedy path
to sainthood for the late pontiff.

Mario Agnes, editor-in-chief of the official Vatican daily L'Osservatore Romano, told an annual pro-Catholic political meeting that the stones in St. Peter's Square where John Paul's blood was shed should be preserved because it was the blood of "an authentic martyred pope."

Ever since Pope Benedict XVI announced May 13 that he was putting John Paul on the fast track for possible sainthood, questions have arisen about whether he could be declared a martyr. Doing so would remove the need for the Vatican to confirm that a miracle attributed to his intercession had occurred after his April 2 death for him to be beatified.

Will the ballyhooo ever stop-Is the Vatican II church so desperate for a hero they will stop at nothing, from throwing out the miracle clause, to fast tracking this man to sainthood, to now calling him a "martyr"?

This is absurd and should cease.

Maybe they should make him the patron saint for the blind as he was basically blind for 26 years to all of the abuse -both physical to the little children as well as those of the liturgical and spiritual that was going on while he was jet setting all over the world

Maybe patron saint of Frequent flier miles as well?

Patron of Youth, Life

He would be considered a white martyr. Shot and suffered for the faith even till the end, offering them for us and the youth.

"You forgot 'Doctor of the Church'"

You're absolutely right; he should be declared one! Maybe it could be done in the act of canonization?

Are patrons made by the Vatican? For some reason I thought these are local customs.

At least perpetual adoration.

An interesting note here: Parishes who have perpetual adoration have many more vocations than do those who don't have it!

"Patron Saint of knocking down walls"

What about patron saint of Berlin? Because he obeyed Our Lady's command and did the consecration the Berlin Wall came down! I think that it would be most fitting that a Pole be the patron saint of the German capital.

When is declared a saint, is when we can talk about it. He is not yet a declared saint, much less a "Great".
