Why not just split? The "hetero" church would surely be much larger and last much longer than the "homo" church would. Why do the gays want to destroy all our institutions, why don't they just found their own. If there are HUNDREDS of clergy in England available I don't really see the problem. And, in the spririt of world wide communion, they can have V. Gene Robinson as their top dog. And then, they can SHUT UP ALREADY!
Although I agree with you that it's long past time, for a cradle Anglican it's not a matter of "just split", any more than it's a matter of "just whack off the leg and it'll all be fine." There's part of the Anglican identity that'll be lost with it, especially since Mother Church is no very clearly part of what'll be lost -- even though dear old Mother has become demented, deranged, a threat to herself and all around her, and in serious need of being shut away.
I am now thoroughly convinced there will be a split (as if I wasn't already). But it is going to be very painful for those involved.
