I think their primary problem is a lack of self confidence. They aren't assured enough of themselves to be able to say "I don't enjoy that because I don't enjoy it", they have to have a reason for it and it needs to be a big reason, an unasailable reason, so they reach for the Bible grab a couple passages and then say "I don't enjoy that because it's evil".

Are you proclaiming the "evils" of HP? I haven't seen that from you, though I could have missed it. If not then you're not in the "they" I was discussing.
Of course you see the same mentality even outside of Christianity vs Potter discussions. There's a large group of people in this world that just can't say "don't care if it's good or bad it's just not my thing". Check out anyplace where people get to rate and review movies, everybody needs some big reason, it's the rare reviewer than can just say "I was bored".
