Good post. Few people realize how aggressively anti-Catholic Mexico was/is. It was only recently, in the last decade or so, that priests were legally permitted to wear clericals in public.

People should remember that Mexico is technically a socialist state - it's so dysfunctional that it's hard to tell what it is, of course, and like most socialist states, it functions as an oligarchy - and is no friend to the Church. Without martyrs like this, the Church would never have survived.
