COMMUNION DENIED TO RAINBOW-WEARING PARISHIONERS
CNN.com ^ | 15 May 2005 | Editors, The Associated Press

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (AP) -- A Roman Catholic priest denied communion to more than 100 people Sunday, saying they could not receive the sacrament because they wore rainbow-colored sashes to church to show support for gay Catholics.

Before offering communion, the Rev. Michael Sklucazek told the congregation at the Cathedral of St. Paul that anyone wearing a sash could come forward for a blessing but would not receive wine and bread.

A group called the Rainbow Sash Alliance has encouraged supporters to wear the multicolored fabric bands since 2001 on each Pentecost Sunday, the day Catholics believe the Holy Spirit came to give power to Christians soon after Jesus ascended to heaven. But Sunday's service was the first time they had been denied communion at the altar.

Archbishop Harry Flynn told the group earlier this month that they would not receive communion because the sashes had become a protest against church teaching.

The article references a "....Sister Gabriel Herbers...." who is said to have worn a sash "....to show sympathy for the gay and lesbian community. Their sexual orientation "is a gift from God just as much as my gift of being a female is," she is alleged to have told the Associated Press editors.

This 'sister' is obviously smitten with worldly attractions, and not the Dogma and the Word of God. Hopefully her superiors have taken note of her heresy, and have acted to withdraw her from her satanic contacts.

We are all sinners but these people come to celebrate their sins and deny that they are sins.

Sounds like they don't need the church if they can say they do no wrong (because "they say so").

Perhaps they should start their own religion?

God Bless the priest and the bishop! It's good to see our clergy taking a strong stand against those protesting the Church's teachings.

Now, if only we could get the clergy to call the openly abortionist politicians to task...

Ping for holy priests!

Rev. Michael Sklucazek, thank you for your reverence for the Holy Eucharist, and equal praise to Archbishop Harry Flynn for protecting the faithful within his diocese. Both of these holy men of God should act to remind the ordained and religious in America to rid the consecrated ground of evil as Christ Jesus drove the wicked from His House.

ArrogantBustard, thank you for doing a search of my TV observation.

There is a 'church', which caters to their every sinful whim:

Founded by Anton LaVey In San Francisco, CA. He died in 1997. The Church of Satan remains active in NY, NY and Chula Vista, California according one of their websites. Do a 'Church of Satan' web search, if you must.

Doubtless we are all sinners, but the Rainbow Sash movement is more than just being convicted in the Spririt.

It is a militant movement that demands the Catholic church abandon Scripture and Tradition and recognize homosexual "marriage," adoption, and all sorts of hanky-panky that have little to do with the Glory of Christ in the Eucharist and It's Adoration.

The link is to a discussion, scroll down, be warned it is in Acrobat.

What they were doing is demonstrating for the church to bless a lifestyle that is sinful by church teachings. This isn't sympathy for people who have same sex attraction. They want the church to say that doing what the church teaches is sinful is ok.

That's why they were denied communion. Wearing a sash that says "I am a fornicator" doesn't mean you are in a state of grace suitable to receive communion.

It isn't a right, communion. It is a privilege...and to be able to partake worthily, one is supposed to follow the rules, lest one bring damnation to oneself.

I don't agree with what the priest did. The Catholic church does not consider being a homosexual a sin, though having homosexual sex IS a sin. The priest just assumed that they were 'sinners.'

We're all sinners, but the Rainbow Sash Movement wants the Church to "dialogue" about homosexuality. There can be no "dialogue" when the other side refuses to acknowledge that their orientation--while not in itself sinful--is intrinsically disordered and that sex outside of the parameters of the marriage is sinful.

You're right that being homosexual is not in and of itself a sin. Neither is being an alcoholic. Reveling in one's disorder is, however, a sin.

These people are not part of Courage, the Catholic organization that encourages folks afflicted with SSAD to live chastely. They are part of a movement to have their sinful unions blessed by the Church. They are obstinate, public sinners.

Pentecost Sunday, the day Catholics believe the Holy Spirit came to give power to Christians soon after Jesus ascended to heaven

This shows how out of touch CNN is with believing Americans... All Christians beleive in Pentecost Sunday!

Biographical sketches and faces of Archbishop Flynn and Father Skluzacek can be found here; snail mail address is at the bottom. I note that Abp. Flynn is a Mount St. Mary's graduate (this is almaost always a good thing). I think these good priests should hear from us; it's a virtual certainty that they're hearing from the bad guys.

"Gay" indicates a lifestyle. Homosexual inclinations, or suffering from same sex attraction is not necessarily being "gay". This is what I believe MarinemomJ means. Rainbow sash wearers are "Gay" activists who want Church approval for their sinful lifestyle choice. And it ain't happening.

Yes, homosexual inclinations in themselves, are not a sin, but acting on them is. So, yes, I meant to say that my reference to gay is the active lifestyle, not the inclination.

Thanks, MurphE. :)
