Andrew Sullivan calls the Pope a "petty, prissy tyrant" because Catholic doctrine shouldn't be treated in a Catholic publication as a mere matter of opinion. It would be nice if Mr. Sullivan were as faithful a Catholic as he were a faithful worshipper at the altar of gay activist ideology.

Firing this moderate, quiet, modest man is really a call to arms for those of us who need to save our church from this disastrous choice for the papacy.

How odd, here I thought it was the Church of Jesus Christ, not the Church of Andy Sullivan and His Gay Buddies, and that the Holy Spirit was ultimately in control of who was or wasn't Pope.

Man the barricades!

Why doesn't he just go down the street to the Unitarians? They will let him pretend to be anything he wants.

The reaction from the editor, Reese, seems so much more rational.

Catholics are not allowed to think through both sides of any issue.

Didn't take long for the libs to speak out. Even Hans Kung gave Pope Benedict a 100 days grace period.

2 generations of catholics have been raised by "thinking" moderates, applying their washed out, faded and flawed approach to catechesis. Time to flush them out and restore authentic teaching.

Message to Catholics: remove your minds.
Pope Benedict is not asking us to remove our minds but to think like the Church.

Message to Andrew Sullivan: Get shriven!

Read the interview, and you can see he is quite sympathetic for the homosxual ex-catholic Sullivan. I say ex-Catholic, because obviously, he has decided to break with the Church.

If I may add, the moderate, calm, balanced and respectful examination of Church doctrine resulted in the decision that homosexuality was a sin.

I am not a Catholic, but I am really puzzled at how anyone--anyone, claiming to adhere to any Biblically based Faith--can possibly suggest that it is merely a matter of "thinking through both sides" of an issue, to advocate theological toleration for homosexual advocacy. Certainly the application of the term "abomination," must be clear to any theologian. Where is there any even slight deviation from the concept that deliberate homosexual conduct is an "abomination," in either the Old or New Testament?

Frankly, treating such a concept as debatable, can only prolong the agony that religious Catholics--including good friends of mine--have had to endure over the sometimes slow response to the abuse of young boys by Homosexual Priests. No one who wishes the Catholic communities of the world, well, would want to see any doubt as to what is right, here, prolonged. Indeed, to try to turn this into a debate, would be much like a State Legislature debating, whether to repeal the laws against rape, theft and burglary. Unless you actually believe that there is no such thing as right and wrong, and no need to protect the decent among us, the debates over such questions should be directed at how to prevent, how to punish, not whether to tolerate.

This does not mean, of course, that religion should not consider the possibility of people abandoning wrong conduct, and seeking redemption. But that is quite another question.

Many argue that same-sex attraction disorder should not disqualify the sufferer from holding positions of authority and power.

However, a person cannot compartmentalize such a disorder and keep it from spilling over into other realms of thought and behavior.

Andrew Sullivan is a good example of this. He's not stupid. In fact, he is correct on many issues. But when anything threatens his disordered emotional need to believe that his sickness is health, he becomes...less than rigorously rational.

Camille Paglia, ditto. I used to read her columns, and she quite often hit nails squarely on their heads. When the subject turned to her disorder, though, she would spin off into irrationality like a malfunctioning pop-bottle rocket.

It is foolhardy to entrust any person who is irrational on such an important issue with responsibility or authority. Nevertheless, the pervofascist activists are brown-shirting their way to a society in which no one is allowed, under penalty of law, to protect children against them.

Instead, we should be compiling a short--very short--list of jobs that may be occupied by open homosexuals (Men and women who suffer from same-sex attraction disorder and like to make sure everyone they meet knows it). Schoolteacher, soldier, policeman, entertainer, and professional athlete would definitely not be on that list.

Notice I said "open homosexuals." If a person never acts on his SSAD there's no way to know that he has it, and so no action to be taken.
