Andrew Sullivan on the Pope and Father Reese (via Amy Welborn)
Amy Welborn (open book) ^ | 5/7/09 | Andrew Sullivan

Posted on 05/09/2005 10:51:50 AM PDT by Unam Sanctam

The magazine never campaigned against church doctrine; it merely aired serious, scholarly articles that raised both sides of many issues. But, according to this petty, prissy tyrant now running the Church, Catholics are not allowed to think through both sides of any issue. This is a signal that not even moderate, calm, balanced and respectful examination of Church doctrine or Church government will be allowed in future. The measures Ratzinger used as prefect will actually be intensified as Pope, until all free thought is extinguished. We were fed p.r. that the new Pope was humble, would be conciliatory, would be a pastor not a dictator. I never believed it. We have had the first sign. It's as dangerous as it is predictable. Message to Catholics: remove your minds. Message to Catholic thinkers: obey on everything - or we will fire you. One silver lining: If I were a Jesuit, I would take the hostility of this clerical tyrant as a badge of honor. Firing this moderate, quiet, modest man is really a call to arms for those of us who need to save our church from this disastrous choice for the papacy.

Andrew Sullivan calls the Pope a "petty, prissy tyrant" because Catholic doctrine shouldn't be treated in a Catholic publication as a mere matter of opinion. It would be nice if Mr. Sullivan were as faithful a Catholic as he were a faithful worshipper at the altar of gay activist ideology.

Andrew Sullivan needs to either conform to Catholic doctrine or to get the hell out of Holy Mother the Church (along with any of his lavender butt buddies who masquerade as Catholics) as pronto as possible. He should stop libeling Catholics by calling himself Catholic.

A serious case of projection.

Doesn't Andy have a Judy Garland memorial orgy to attend?

How odd, here I thought it was the Church of Jesus Christ, not the Church of Andy Sullivan and His Gay Buddies, and that the Holy Spirit was ultimately in control of who was or wasn't Pope.

Man the barricades!

Why doesn't he just go down the street to the Unitarians? They will let him pretend to be anything he wants.

The reaction from the editor, Reese, seems so much more rational.

>> IT BURNS! IT BURNS!! <<

Is this Andrew Sullivan on Frodo's leash (Pope John Paul II always reminded me of Frodo, even if he did live in "Gandalf's Castle." [Castel Gandolfo]), or is this a reference to one of Sullivan's likely infections?

Catholics are not allowed to think through both sides of any issue.

Didn't take long for the libs to speak out. Even Hans Kung gave Pope Benedict a 100 days grace period.

2 generations of catholics have been raised by "thinking" moderates, applying their washed out, faded and flawed approach to catechesis. Time to flush them out and restore authentic teaching.

What gets me is that a lot of conservative pundits and bloggers treat Andrew Sullivan like he is someone to take seriously. I'm sorry, but if all you can come up with is demonizing insults like "theocrats" and the like solely because one believes in traditional sexual morality, then I don't think such persons should be taken seriously amongst the chattering classes, especially the conservative chattering classes. His rhetoric against traditional Christian believers has reached a Farrakhanesque level of invective, IMHO.

Message to Catholics: remove your minds.
Pope Benedict is not asking us to remove our minds but to think like the Church.

Message to Andrew Sullivan: Get shriven!

Wow!!!!! I guess little Andrew is a little bit upset! These people are so determined to try to destroy the Church. They need major prayers!

Read the interview, and you can see he is quite sympathetic for the homosxual ex-catholic Sullivan. I say ex-Catholic, because obviously, he has decided to break with the Church.

If I may add, the moderate, calm, balanced and respectful examination of Church doctrine resulted in the decision that homosexuality was a sin.
