It would appear that your understanding of what the Church teaches is what is problematic. God loves us so much that he is willing to chastise us when we do evil, to get us to repent so that we won't suffer eternal damnation, so we can be with him in heaven. It's what a loving parent does.

It's what a loving parent does.The Church does not teach that. You are free to interpret events as chastisements from God if you wish, but that is not a dogma of the Catholic Church.
