Old memories die hard.

Gee, I guess.

Paul VI kissing feet at St. Peter's.

John Paul II sending back icons.

What else do we have to kiss? And is there anything else we can send to at least move you folks beyond the Fourth Crusade?

And - what would really be funny, if it weren't so pathetic - all the "Orthodox" anger for Rome's past sins on the part of people who two years ago were Episcopalians or Southern Baptists.

PUHHLEEEEEZE, get real.

You forgot John Paul II apologizing to Patriarch of Greece for sins committed by sons and daughters of Catholic Curch against Orthodox faithfuls.

Greek fury over Pope visit

Two years ago I was neither of those. I was Roman Catholic and am now Eastern Orthodox and belong to a church in OCA. I have no anger towards Rome and think it was proper for the pope to return the icon and the bones of the Saints.

I have found peace and proper worship with the EO and don't think about the RCC at all anymore. I was sad when the pope died and happy for the RC church that a good man was made pope. No anger, just puzzlement why the RC's here want the Orthodox to join them so badly that it angers them?

Sure, how about giving back the Shroud of Turan?

I have been Russian Orthodox all of my life. My grandfathers were priests and my grandmother wrote almost 80 services for the church. So be careful in the statements you make regarding anybody's Orthodoxy.

As far as I am concerned, I don't have any anger towards Rome. I think that many mistakes have been made in the past - on the part of both Rome and the Orthodox. The Orthodox church under the control of the Communists at the time did not behave well in the Ukraine. The Roman Catholic church was deeply involved in the bloody genocidal hell that was Jasenovac in Croatia. There are tragic and awful things in the history of both sides.

I have a great respect fot the Roman Catholic Church and I wish they would come back and join the Orthodox Church which they left after the schism way back when (1054?) but I don't see that happening any time soon. Too much has passed and too many changes have been made for Rome to return...but that does not mean we can't get along and have mutual respect.

I truly detest Church politics as it takes away from the main point of the Church which is to Glorify God Almighty...Men are weak and are sinners who more often than not make mistakes. The leaders of our respective Churches are but fallible men (and YES, I include Pope Benedict XVI as I am of the Orthodox belief that only Christ was infallible). I belief a dialogue is needed as it is the only way to come together and together do the work of God. Admit past mistakes and move on.

Apologies at this point would simply be formalities and they are useless as they change nothing. No apology from the Commies will bring back my grandfather and great-grandfather (BOTH martyred for the Faith as Orthodox priests) or bring back the relatives who starved to death during the blockade of St. Petersburg.
