Say WHAT?!! [ECUSA Bishop Sauls]
Midwest Conservative Journal ^ | 4/18/2005 | Christopher Johnson

Lexington Episcopal Bishop Stacy Sauls kicks things around with Living Church and graphically demonstrates the titanic cluelessness of the modern Episcopal pointy-hat.  What about the letter ECUSA's Executive Council sent to the ACC, Stace?  The one that said you're not going but you'll be there?

That is certainly a fair characterization of the intent. Over and over the words “gracious” and “generous” were used in trying to describe what we were trying to accomplish. We also used the word “honoring” what the primates asked us to do. The council as a whole sees this as an opportunity for reasoned discussion to take place—to allow room for reasoned discussion to take place. To try to indicate our willingness...one of the reasons we are sending our representatives to listen is intended as an expression of our firm desire to be part of the Anglican Communion. That was very much part of everything we talked about.

Who called it "gracious," Stace?  Who called it "generous?"  You guys?  Because I certainly don't see anything particularly gracious or generous about ECUSA trying to save face and once again doing what it wants to do instead of what it was asked to do.  No means no, Stace.   You're not interested in saving the marriage if you "graciously" and "generously" offer to sleep with your mistress only once a week.

Then Sauls jacks one into the seats.  What did you think of Frank Griswold's leadership during the Executive Council meeting?

Yes, I definitely think that the Presiding Bishop was a leader today. And it is definitely fair to say that the Executive Council wanted the Presiding Bishop to take that roll. Foremost on virtually everyone’s mind was wanting to hear from the Presiding Bishop because we knew that was the best source, our best link, to what others in the wider Communion were thinking. Especially what they were thinking after the House of Bishops’ Covenant Statement and whether that had altered people’s perceptions and maybe opened up new ways of conversation.

Frank Griswold "was the best source, our best link, to what others in the wider Communion were thinking."  Frank Griswold.  Frank Griswold.  Presiding Bishop Frank Griswold of the Episcopal Church of the United States of America "was the best source, our best link, to what others in the wider Communion were thinking."  Frank Griswold.  Frank Griswold.  One question, Stace.

Are you freaking kidding me?

Is that the same Frank Grisowld who signed a piece of paper stating that consecrating Gene Robinson would tear the Anglican Communion apart, walked outside, repudiated what he'd just signed and went home and consecrated Robbie anyway?  Is that the same Frank Griswold who thinks that ECUSA's wink-wink approach to same-sex marriages actually constitutes a ban?

Is that the same Frank Griswold who heads a church with which a major portion of the Anglican world has broken communion?  Is that the same Frank Griswold with whom many Anlgican primates refused to take Communion at Newry?  That Frank Griswold is "the best source, our best link, to what others in the wider Communion were thinking?"

Ballgame.  Thanks for playing.  There's still plenty of time but it's entirely possible that the Dumb Anglican Quote of the Year competition may be over.

Wait....wait....isn't anybody going to nominate that wingnut ECUSA...Druid...ECUSA...priest?

"I had been working on a ministry seeking to find common ground between two traditions, but the bishop of Pennsylvania and vestry of St. James said 'you can't do that,' " he said Friday. "So I decided I had to make the decision that had the most personal integrity for me."

That decision was to renounce his ordination vows and become a Druid priest. He called it a "joyous occasion." But by the weekend he reversed himself and cut his Druid ties.

Last time I encountered such flip-flopping, I knocked it in the head, gutted it, fried it to a crispy golden brown, & served it up with tartar sauce! RUN MELNYK!
