Prayer for the Election of a Pope - Lord God, you are our eternal shepherd and guide. In your mercy grant your Church a shepherd who will walk in your ways and whose watchful care will bring us your blessing. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. (Collect, Mass for the Election of a Pope, Roman Missal)

Howdy from a newly-minted, month-old Catholic thanks to years of persistence from my Irish-American wife.

Momentous events occuring since I crossed the Protestant picket line.

Thanks for this thread.

Sometimes I think that God lets us experience things at mass that we don't want to so we can learn that these are beloved of him, too...even fussy kids, or people who wear clothes they really ought not, or the ugly or handicapped, or even those who chatter when they ought to be quiet.

I did once fuss at someone though, when the boyfriend (who I suspect was not catholic) of a girl sitting behind me was teasing her about going up to communion so he could have some wine. They had been chattering softly throughout the mass, but that one just got on my last nerve, and as I got up to get into the communion line, I said, "Shame on you!" and they were relatively quiet to the end of the service.

Disrespecting Jesus at that sacred moment was just more than I could deal with!

May God mercifully give us the Pope we NEED, not the Pope we want.

Come Holy Spirit fill the hearts of Your faithful, and kindle in them the fire of Your love. Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created, and You shall renew the face of the earth...

This is one of those times when one can only hope and pray. I am a bit nervous about a liberal sneaking through.

Regards, Ivan

**I have been praying that the Cardinals are filled with the Holy Spirit from the moment they convene and He directs them each time they cast their votes.**

As someone stated above, the world does not understand the deep spiritual aspect of a conclave. It is more like a retreat than an election.

Prayer by all of us to the Holy Spirit is most needed. (And, of course, the secular world or media doesn't understand even prayer!)
