Confirmed by St. Padre Pio.

I was not aware that St. Pio confirmed the prophecy of Malachy. Do you have a link?

Yes, Akita is the one to read! Sr. Agnes Sassagawa was a great saint even if she is never formally beatified or canonized.

A New Pope
“In this day where death took place from an office that was so high, a shaking shall begin through these summer months where great leaders of yesterday will lay down their sword and they shall meet their Maker. For the time of the death has come where I will remove some of the old and then millions and millions shall come into the Kingdom at one moment. For in 21 days from now a shaking will take place in the Roman Catholic Church. They will say, No it can not be why would they elect such a person? And then they will say, No we can not do it at this time. But it shall be done and I will bring the Spirit into the Roman Catholic Church and the Vatican there will be an infilling of the spirit of the Cardinals and the priests. This day I have received a servant. This day you call him the Pope. This day I call him My son. This day you said a pope has died, this day I say a servant has won.

No I do not have a link. In 1947, Karol Wojtyla traveled to Italy and went to confession with Padre Pio. It is not entirely clear, as no hidden confession ever is, but believed that Padre Pio revealed to him that he would one day be the Roman Pontiff. In 1962, as archbishop, Karol Wojtyla was completely cured from a cancerous tumor, after dispatching a letter to Pio asking for his prayers, by his intercession or that of his angels.

If someone could find a link, that would be nice.

I hardly think an extrememly rare form of eclipse, one that has not happened since 1987, only began happening in 1103, will only next happen in 2023 and will happen for the last time in 2528, well as I was saying, I hardly think that such a rare eclipse corresponding to his funeral events, occuring within a week of his death, corresponding to prophecy, and linked to an eclipse on the day of his birth - well, nevermind.

That certainly is fascinating, and if anyone has a link I would appreciate it as well. The more I learn of St. Pio, the more he amazes me :-)

Hmm....I hadn't thought of that. Excellent point. However, if true, he must have been even more holy than we imagine to have only spent a week in purgatory.

I hardly think an extrememly rare form of eclipse, one that has not happened since 1987, only began happening in 1103, will only next happen in 2023 and will happen for the last time in 2528,

Where did you see that such an eclipse never happened before 1103 and will never happen agin after 2528?

The moon casts a shadow where it block sunlight. When the moon goes between the Sun and the Earth (which happens twice a year), that shadow extends towards the Earth. The umbra (the part of the shadow where all sunlight is completely blocked) forms a cone. If the tip of the cone hits the earth's surface, those areas covered by the umbra see a "total" eclipse, where the sun is completely blocked for a period of time that can be a split second or as long as over 7 minutes. But the distance between the Earth and the moon varies, and sometimes the tip of the umbral cone does not extend all the way to the Earth's surface. In such a case people directly under the cone tip see an "annular" eclipse, where the moon's shadow forms a disk smaller than the Sun, and so a ring of the Sun's surface can be seen around the (completely dark) image of the moon.

During any kind of eclipse, the movement of both the Earth and the moon cause the moon's shadow to sweep in an arc across the Earth. In this particular case, the distance between the Earth and the moon is such that the umbral tip is above the Earth's surface at the beginning and end of the eclipse's track, but touches the Earth during the middle of it; thus, it is an annular eclipse in the beginning, becomes total in the middle, and reverts to annular at the end.

I am unaware of any assertion by anyone that in the Earth/moon system's 3.6 billion or so year history this kind of interaction never occurred before 1103 and will never happen again after 2528. What's your source for this?

Well I'd love to have a link, too, and would be happy if someone could find one. Padre Pio was truly a man of God.

If you are still doubting the prophecy how about considering this tidbit on top of the 18 May 1920 birthdate of JPII† correpsonding to the largest partial solar eclipse of the century, and on top of the extremely rare "hybrid" solar eclipse (Saros 129 series eclipse) on the 7th day after his death (meaningfully NOT the day of his death), the day of his funeral; so how about this tidbit which seems to also correspond to St. Malachy's prophetic puzzle "De Labore Solis" ("From the labor of the Sun"):

Krakow, Cardinal Wojtyla's pastoral diocese, is also the place where Copernicus toiled and labored on his theory that the Sun was the center of the solar system.

We don't know anything about the duration of the stay in the Purgatory, do we? We only know it happens for most who are justified.

If I'm not mistaken, the First Vatican Council dealt with the theological issue of Purgatory.

The links in post 16 describe the eclipses for eclipse Saros cycle 129 . There are currently 40 Saros cycles running simultaneously (see here, each with it's own complement of partial, annular, total, and hybrid eclipses. If you look here, you'll see that over 5% of all eclipses between 2000 BC and 4000 AD are hybrid. In the 21st century alone there will be ones in 2013, 2023, 2031, 2049, 2050, and 2067. In the 29th century, there will be nine of them. Your statement that "the last one will be in 2528" is inaccurate.

The statement that the first one occurred in the 12th century is also inaccurate. Again, that only applies to Saros 129. The referenced page shows them going back into antiquity and forward as far as they've calculated.

What can I say? I'm an Astronomy Merit Badge counselor.

It did, but the duration of the stay is all hypothetical. There may be some folk tradition that speculates on that, but no doctrine. We don't know, for example, how long it takes to purge the aftereffects of a murder, or a broken fast. I would venture to say, we know that it is not knowable. This is one of those things that were a problem with indulgences.

I was referring to the Saros 129 cycle - not any other cycle. If I gave a false impression then I apologize. But according to NASA that cycle STARTED IN 1103 and ENDS IN 2528.

Clearly you are not the most gracious poster, and since we are mourning and reflecting our (and when I say "we" and "our" I'm being very gracious) beloved Holy Father and the awe of God's Glory and signs on this particular thread, why don't you take your ire and misinterpretations elsewhere.
