First Unit Director's Cut [The Left and the African Bishops]
Midwest Conservative Journal ^ | 3/22/2005 | Christopher Johnson

If Indianapolis Episcopal Bishop Catherine Waynick's letter about the recent House of Bishops meeting ever comes out on DVD, it's going to have lots and lots of extras.  Seems she told her ministers a whole lot more than she told her diocese.  Like this, for example:

First, as many of you already know, the Presiding Bishop shared his experience of the meeting in Dromantine. He told us that the atmosphere was “very charged,” and that it seemed to him some of the Primates were “out for blood.” He also said that feeling abated as they shared small group Bible study and conversation over the course of the week.

He said that several colleagues came to him and asked quiet and sincere questions about the nature of same sex relationships which revealed to him the profound misunderstandings in other parts of the world. Surprisingly, the most vocal outrage was expressed when they were told that in such partnerships either or both of the men actually cooked meals. This revelation was greeted with genuine horror; men should not cook! At the same time there was greater acknowledgement than in the past that homosexuality does in fact exist in their cultures.

Let's see now.  African bishops are all college-educated men, many no doubt with degrees from Really Prestigious Western Universities and all these men have traveled widely in the West.  During their college days and before they were married, it seems entirely likely that they had to cook themselves a meal now and then.  And Frank Griswold would actually have us believe that the revelation that "men actually cooked meals" was "greeted with genuine horror."  May I have a quick show of hands of everyone who thinks that's even remotely plausible?  No one?  Thanks.

Is Frank's assertion racist?  I don't think so.  I think it is indicative of a pervasive western liberal Anglican mindset.  Since we're out of noble savages in the West, the Third World has to play that role.  They're there to impress the West with their colorful costumes and ceremonies and their criticisms of Western materialism and greed.  The Third World is more legitimate than the West, more grounded, more real.  And if they happen to criticize a conservative United States president about some US policy or other, so much the better, as the reverence with which Uncle Desmond Tutu is received in western liberal circles demonstrates.  To the western left, Third Worlders are little more than pets.

But let the Third World get opinions of its own, particularly opinions that differ from those of the left, and the whole liberal world view shatters beyond repair.  Since such a cataclysm must somehow be explained, the left can often end up sounding like touchy-feely Klansmen.  Since we western liberals are not(and are incapable of being) wrong, Peter Akinola and Henry Orombi cannot possibly disagree with us by themselves.  It's all a result of African culture or the fact that the poor Africans are easily bribed by evil western conservatives or just aren't as advanced as Westerners are.  I guess when the family dog tells you he's not crazy about the food you feed him, you'd be disconcerted too.

Homosexual Agenda Ping.

Hmmm, let's see what's wrong with this picture.

That's easy - everything. Like a photo negative.

An excellent example of how liberal/leftsits are the real racists. The truth is the African Anglicans are disgusted at homosexual "bishops" because they must be sincerely trying to know and follow God's will. African churches should send missionaries to Europe and the US.

Look at this:

"It's all a result of African culture or the fact that the poor Africans are easily bribed by evil western conservatives or just aren't as advanced as Westerners are. I guess when the family dog tells you he's not crazy about the food you feed him, you'd be disconcerted too."

Let DirtyHarryY2K and me know if anyone wants on/off this pinglist.

Wait, if it continues to go bad for ECUSA, we may yet witness the, dare I say it, "resurrection" of the "white man's burden" as the justification for his comments..

In a way, to the US, they already are.
