Prayers For Terri
Knitting A Conundrum

Prayer for Terri Schiavo and the Schindlers

In to your hands, O Lord, we commit our dear sister Terri and her loving family.

Strengthen them, O Lord, for the days and tasks ahead, open the doors that the dark one has tried to shutter close and have mercy on this family.

Bring mercy and wisdom to the minds of those who deal with her. May the judges who wrestle with these issues be gifted with respect for mercy and life.

Terri and her family are such a symbol of life, of it's preciousness, and of the evil that men do pretending that they offer mercy when they offer pain, and death and sorrow.

Lord, help them in their time of need, heal their hearts, make them strong, and may their example help all of us who care, who fight for the rights of the vunerable and weak, and who depend upon you to be our strength and our shield.

Lord, be with us and help us answer your call, this day, and always, as we ask it in the name of Jesus, Amen

The prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effects. Elijah was a man of like nature with ourselves and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. Then he prayed again and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth its fruit. James 5:16-18

Please join me in praying for Terri, the Schindlers, and all who are dealing with the most vunerable and in need in our society, the severely handicapped, the unborn, the dying.

When the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne.

Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left.

Then the King will say to those at his right hand, `Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world;for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.'

Then the righteous will answer him, `Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee, or thirsty and give thee drink?
And when did we see thee a stranger and welcome thee, or naked and clothe thee? And when did we see thee sick or in prison and visit thee?'

And the King will answer them, `Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.'

Matthew 25:31-40

But thou, O LORD, be not far off!
O thou my help, hasten to my aid!
Deliver my soul from the sword,
my life from the power of the dog!
Save me from the mouth of the lion,
my afflicted soul from the horns of the wild oxen!
I will tell of thy name to my brethren;
in the midst of the congregation I will praise thee:
You who fear the LORD, praise him!
all you sons of Jacob, glorify him,
and stand in awe of him, all you sons of Israel!
For he has not despised or abhorred
the affliction of the afflicted;
and he has not hid his face from him,
but has heard, when he cried to him.

Psalm 22: 19-24

O my Jesus,
how thirsty you must have been
when they offered you the cup
of wine and gall,
after being beaten,
after being pulled and dragged up the road,
close to dying even before they nailed you to the cross,
thirsty,
thirsty from bloodloss,
thirsty from sweating blood in the garden
under the weight of our sins
thirsty from the dust of the street as you fell.
How dry your mouth,
how thick your tongue,
and yet you chose not to drink
so you could feel the depths of pain to the dregs.

O Lord,
you who know the reality of killing thirst,
be with our sister Terri
and comfort her,
and speed the relief to her,
as her suffering grows
this the week of your passion's anniversary,
and her passion swiftly upon her.

Aid her,
aid those of her working so hard for the cause of life,
cover them all with your precious blood,
Amen.

Lord, you are the ultimate judge.

By your power,
we ask for justice for Terri.
By your strength,
we ask for care for Terri.
By your love,
we ask that Terri be cared for.
By your passion,
we ask that Terri be nurtured.
By your might,
we ask justice for the wrong done to her
in the name of convenience,
secularism,
and a vision of the world where you play no part.

O Lord,
hear our prayer,
and let our cry come unto thee.

Amen.

Lord, as this afternoon trickles down minute by minute,
be with Terri,
hold her hand.
Be with the ones who love her.
Guide the hands of those who have her fate
in their hands.

Be with all who are supporting her cause
and the cause of life.

Lord, as the tension mounts
and the waiting grows so hard,
when times are rough
be with us,
be our shepherd,
let your rod and staff comfort us,
prepare that place for us
in the midst our our enemies,
lead us beside the calm waters that come
from trust in thee,
restore our soul when we feel like screaming,
for thou art with us,
even though we walk through the dark valleys
we will fear no evil,
you anoint us with the oil of your blessing.
Goodness and mercy will come from our trust in thee,
and we shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Reason and decency and common sense have abandoned Terri. All that is left to save her is prayer.

We need to pray that God's will be communicated and done by his power. It's in his hands.

Let's also pray that each party in this, the Schindler's the Schiavo's the attorneys and the legal folks are guided by the Father and not by their own interests.

There are truly times that the best prayer of all is:
Not my will, but thine.
