A Pennsylvania priest who lived at a Catholic church in West Orange in December and January was charged yesterday with possession of child pornography in Monroe County, Pa.
The Rev. Virgil Bradley Tetherow, 40, of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Scranton, Pa., allegedly downloaded images of child pornography onto a computer used by a secretary at the St. Ann's Catholic Church rectory in Tobyhanna, Pa., while visiting there in January, authorities said.
Tetherow, who lived at St. Ann's for most of 2004, admitted to the allegation, according to detective Kenneth Lanning of the Pocono Mountain Regional Police in an affidavit of probable cause filed in the case.
Tetherow began living and working at St. Anthony of Padua Church in West Orange in December. He is a longtime friend of the new priest, the Rev. John Perricone.

Heads up to those of you involved with this parish.
I know that some of you probably interacted with this guy.

I think it's pretty safe to say that those of us who are (or were) involved with this chapel are well aware already. I just hope that those left behind at the formerly Traditional chapel in West Orange realize that the Society of St. Pius X is functioning in the area with a growing, thriving mission, and that they'll be warmly received should they decide to worship once again with their former fellow parishioners.

I would never cross the threshold of a Novus Ordo church, but thanks. I guess.

I thought the Novus Ordo wasn't being said there.

I wouldn't know if the new mass is being performed there yet. What I do know is that it's firmly under the control of the horribly liberal Archdiocese of Newark, so it's only a matter of time if it's not a done deal already.

The minute the NO gets their claws into this Chapel, we have a child-porn scandal.
Amazing coincidence that.

The minute the NO gets their claws into this Chapel, we have a child-porn scandal. The priest in question, Tetherow, said the Tridentine Latin Mass. The West Orange chapel is exclusively TLM.
On the contrary, the evidence points in the other direction.

I have a different take on it sinkspur. If a bishop wanted to discourage people from going to the TLM, a sure way would be to send a priest like this there.
The whole time this was an independent chapel they had no worries about this sort of thing.

That's a cheap shot.
By "NO", I assume you mean the local diocese, for no Novus Ordo Mass is said there.
I deliberately avoided, and the thread does not contain, any gloating comments about a Tridentine Rite priest downloading child porn. Then you weigh in with a comment about the "NO".
Presumably, you attribute this to his association with a diocese where the Novus Ordo is the normative Mass, or perhaps even his celebrating the Novus Ordo Mass?
It would be unthinkable that one who esteems the Tridentine Rite above the Novus Ordo might be tainted with the same problem as the apostates who say the new Mass, wouldn't it?

Oh, wait, I forgot. It's a conspiracy, ain't it? Archbishop Meyers KNEW that Tetherow was a pedophile, right, and sent him there to sabotage West Orange, after he had just agreed to send a priest from the diocese there a year ago.
Got it.

Did you read the article?
He was not foisted on the Chapel by a mischievious bishop (more conspiracy theories). He was held in high standing by Fr. Perricone, who seems as shocked as anyone.
By the way, the little comment about the bishop's possible intentions is way out of line.
Imputing poor intentions on the bishop's part is presumptuous and sinful.
Another thread goes down the crapper.

The minute it's in the clutches of the New-Church diocese it becomes perverted with a kiddie-porn scandal. OK. I can play that game.
The New-Church diocese allows West Orange to continue to function as an all-TLM chapel. Perricone says the TLM exclusively. Tetherow did too, once he came to West Orange.
Must be something about the TLM.

One might wonder why the origingal poster called the story a "Tridentine/West Orange alert" when the story did not occur in West Orange, nor did it have anything to do with the "Tridentine" Mass...
One could be led to think that it was actually designed to go down the crapper, and to bring some FReepers with it.
