No one is questioning meditation.
from a biblical standpoint.
The methods of meditation is what,s being questioned.
These methods have their origin in Eastern Mysticism..

You are comparing apples to oranges.

Tell me how you think the writer of Psalms 1 did his meditation.

Here is a link to a list of many in depth articles on Rick Warren and his teachings.

http://www.deceptioninthechurch.com/churchgrowth.html#rwarren

(2Timothy 4:3-5)
For a time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine, but following their own desires, will surround themselves with teachers who tickle their ears.
They will stop listening to the truth and wander off fables.
As for you,be steady and self-possessed,;put up with hardship, perform your work as an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

This is very powerful scripture,it was given to me in prayer

Here is the difference on meditation.
Here is a link to a site that explains it well.
I'm sure you will see what I mean when you read it.
This is what Rick Warren is doing, and it is very dangerous.
I see many of his idea,s tied into what Carl Jung taught. Many of us have knowledge of The Theosophical Society, Helen Blavatsky,Alice Baily and Carl Jung.

Satan is still good at the old "Bait and Switch"

Awesome link - thank you!

Loved the article by Spurgeon...spot on.

We have a local "Born Again" church that ran an ad on TV:

"Church should be....

(words flash across screen amidst photos of happy churchgoers and band leaders)

*Fun* - *Exciting* - *Entertaining* - *Positive*"

They have close to 500 members and an enormous building complex. The sermons are run on local access TV, and a good portion of the time, the pastor is passing the plate, talking about money.

The whole point I am trying to make here is this.
If Rick Warren,s new method,s are bringing people to worship it should be questioned
Some of the method,s he is using are not biblical.
I wish Rick Warren would renounce some of his method,s
I don,t think it will happen now because it,s financially driven.
Blue,I am cognoscente of the new in people Christ but it is just as important for them to follow scriptures and sound biblical doctrine.
Our natural psychology is to get exited about "New" things.
We need to take the time look deeply into these "New" things before we act on them.
There are other leader,s in Christ that teach sound Biblical Doctrine. It may not be new and exiting,in fact some may find it boring.
The gate is narrow.
(James 1:5) If any of you is without wisdom, let him ask it from God who gives generously and ungrudgingly to all,and it will be given to him>

There is much we can learn from our old Church leaders.
A good example is The minister Dr Martyn LLoyd Jones
He has been dead since 1981 and his sermons still continue to touch people lives.
It has been said that after some of his sermons people would sit in the pews long after the service was over.
He taught the importance of the Holy Spirit.
Dr Jones was troubled by the evangelical movement even in his times.
Here is a link. You can still listen to some of his sermons

Oh nuts, the lights went on again. You are right the new believers and the more mature have to follow scripture and sound doctrine. But that is the responsibility of the Pastors and teachers who are using Warren's method or any one else's method to lead and teach them. All that the "Purpose Driven Church" is, is a tool, a method; not the gospel or a substitute for the scriptures. If anyone is lazy enough to use it as such then a pox on his/her house. That is not what Warren is promoting. When I teach or any serious teacher or Pastor prepares to teach or preach, we use many different sources and illustrations to make the Word understandable to the audience we are dealing with. Some are drawn from secular sources since God is the author of all truth and His creativity, including intellectual pursuits, are as varied as His imagination. The audio visual system in our church, the instruments and arrangements for the music, the seating arrangement were all planned originally from secular sources that were ultimately refined for worship. That is what Warren did with his church expansion method and our church refined to meet our needs. I dare say, your church does the same thing in your planning and budgeting.

I have to go now, I feel March Madness coming over me again and the partner's meeting is being held at the local sports pub. Catch you later.

I've been reading some of the comments here and find myself shaking my head. And just to be clear, I'm not referring to anything you've said. Not at all.

This guilt by association and misrepresentation by some is incredible. And now, Discipleship Journal is under attack by some here. Incredible. Those who push this stuff have made it to my prayer list.
