For all of you Rick Warren fans out there, did you happen to catch the interview with the Brian Nichols, ex-hostage Ashley Smith? She was reading "Purpose Driven Life" as part of her devotions and read part of chapter 33 to him and then asked him what he thought his purpose in life was. This was part of the discussion that convinced Nichols to give himself up. We should all have her boldness in the face of trials.

You know there is a case to be made for inherent discrimination in the height of the rims. Right now the ratio of blacks to whites in basketball is about 95% to 5% because every one knows white boys can't jump. Now if you lower the rims to say around 8 feet, more white boys could thunder dunk and that would encourage more to participate until the ratio reflected the racial make up of the population. Sort of affirmative action for basketball.

Nah! We would lose too many polo and tennis players. Never mind.

When I played at Mars Hill College, N.C.State used to send their brightest and best to Wingate College to learn not to drool on the floor or their uniforms. I remember playing against one of their top recruits and the Wingate coach standing on the sidelines pointing the direction to the basket for this genius. Of course he humiliated me but it has been the source of great memories and they get more fantastic as the years go by.

No, they were lead to the Lord by the Holy Spirit using the gifts He gave to Rick Warren, the small group leaders, my Pastor and the prayer team. Some sowed the seed, some watered, some gathered, but the Lord gave the harvest. And, now more than six months later, the new Christians and the older believers are still excited about the Lord and attending worship on Sunday, prayer meeting on Wednesday and small groups on weekdays. there is at least one on every day. We have never had 80% of our congregation as active as they are now, following the model that Rick warren shared with us, which incidentally, is the early church model.

OK the argument is that if Collins own Zondervan and prints the Satanic Bible and The Purpose Driven Life, that Christians then should not buy it????


Hmmmmm, lets take this argument a step back. If Zondervan buys its paper from Weyerhauser then Christian's should not use any products that uses this paper companies goods.

In the States, I believe much of the church is side tracked by witch-hunts even within their own ranks.

Continuing to feed them with accurate scripture is also important.
Tell me where Centering Prayer and Yoga is acceptable with scripture?

There's a lot of guilt-by-association going on here, huh? I must confess that although Rick Warren has never spoken at my Church, our senior pastor (who is a fairly prominent evangelist) once spoke at Saddleback Church. Now I read somewhere on one of these threads that someone no longer trusts my pastor because he spoke there. He's been "soiled." And since I go to a church where the pastor once spoke at Warren' church, I must be soiled as well.

So apparently Warren is such an evil influence on the Christian World that speaking at his Church is sufficient grounds for dis-fellowship from the world of the Warren haters. Maybe that's a good thing. :-)

I don't know where in Warren's writings you are getting "centering prayer" or yoga from, however, meditation and focusing in prayer have been accepted disciplines in the church from the early church in the New Testament. Richard Foster, Dallas Willard, Kent Hughes, Lorne Sandy and many other current writers, Pastors and theologians have recommended these disciplines, especially when spending an extended period of time with the Lord, fasting and praying. The mind wanders, the body needs to stretch, hunger and thirst distract. It is learned and practiced disciplines that keep the mind and heart focused on the Lord so that we can hear what He has to say to us through his Word, the witness of others in books or songs of praise, or His speaking to us in the quiet of meditation on His word or prayer. It seems to me Warren is not for you or your fellowship, and that is alright.Just don't close the door to others who are being lead by God to find the path through the gift God has given him. It is like the parable of the dog in the manger. It doesn't belong there but it won't let the baby, the rightful occupant, sleep there. Don't shut the door to the kingdom to those who are sensitive to Warren's approach.

Oh man, just when we were getting to know each other. I guess I will have to find another sand box. Wait, I knew someone who saw Warren on television and he mentioned it at prayer meeting so I guess that soils me but not as bad as you. Sandy posted on this thread and she went to Saddleback and I read her posts so I guess we can fellowship. Try not to enjoy your Pastor and I think that will exempt you from further contamination.
