For all of you Rick Warren fans out there, did you happen to catch the interview with the Brian Nichols, ex-hostage Ashley Smith? She was reading "Purpose Driven Life" as part of her devotions and read part of chapter 33 to him and then asked him what he thought his purpose in life was. This was part of the discussion that convinced Nichols to give himself up. We should all have her boldness in the face of trials.
"A" Is presumptive. I don't personally know that God has a wonderful plan for any individual person's life.
What point were you trying to make? I can't read your mind. You obviously posted the verses for a reason and you emphasized a portion of that scripture. What was your reason for posting it and what was the reason you felt the need to emphasize those words?
Would you like to explain that one?
If you were to take the few minutes and go through the process I mentioned previously, it will be much easier for you to understand. The Holy Spirit will enlighten you, trust Him.
maybe I misconstrued her intent - of course lacking anything other than bolded Scripture, she's wrong to assume I'm Kreskin
What DID you mean suzy? -
I'll gladly apologize if I mischaracterized your intent
So rather than just throwing "scripture bricks" at us, why not just come out and say what's on your mind.
Just scanned it. Found it pretty bland and light, but for some its apparently a meal. Struck me as a scripture related Self Esteem 101 book.
I was also not enthused that scripture quotes were taken from one or another of fifteen different translations.(??)
I believe I read/heard that Ms. Smith read to him from "chapter 33". I put chapter in quotes because the book is divided into days, not chapters. The day is entitled How Real Servants Act.
If someone verifies what part she read to Nichols, I'll type it in for you. I can't see anything there that would turn a quadruple murderer around in his tracks, but who knows?
I discern you calling me a heretic for suggesting the killer would react negatively when told the Calvinist doctrine of total depravity.
If Ive incorrectly discerned your intent from the Scripture youve posted please laert me and I will be glad to correct my interp publicly
additionally, if you feel I have mischaracterized the bad guys response, I would be interested in hearing why you feel that is the case
I apologize if you see it that way - it was not my intent
Rather - to illustrate the bad guy would have reacted negatively to the doctrine of total depravity in lieu of Warrens book
The bad guy needed milk -
Why he would react to Warren and not Calvin is an interesting dilemma given the tarring warren takes on these threads
I am simply being used by God, along with Scripture and a public forum, to help others exercise their faith. Similar to this post from P- earlier:
I would have to agree that the hostage showed all of the fruits of the spirit. She was amazing. Do you think that reading Warren's book along with the Bible helped her to develop those fruits? Do you think that perhaps God used her and Warren's book as tools to diffuse the situation?
I have not only not called you a name, but have treated you like a brother, wanting only the best for you!
how is insinuating I am a "heretic", "excersizing" your faith?
You know nothing about me other than a critical statement regarding total depravity.
Ive not spoken to you previously - nor have we interacted via freep - but still, Its insinuated Im a "heretic".
I have a real concern regarding your refusal to properly convey your intentions, and it tells me you are being less than genuine with us
In which case I am done responding to your posts - please refrain from posting me and I will respect the same
Whew! You need a time out, you are imagining things!
only due to your cheeky vagueness and inability to concisely convey or clarify your intent and comments
If that were true you'd answer his questions. He asked you what you meant when you posted that verse and emphasized those words. You keep avoiding answering the question.
If you'd like a scripture brick try 1Pet 3:15.
Best I can figure, unless it's explained otherwise, suzy is just in agreement with Rev's initial post to which she responded.
But maybe there's something there I'm not seeing.
That said, it's still obvious, as I said upline, that the tool and the words that were used to diffuse this situation were from Warren's PDL. For that we should be thankful.
My comment (use words that unnecessarily mock the viewpoints of others) had to do with the tone of the entire thread and the fact that a good discussion can place without using words which make individuals feel like they are being personally attacked or mocked for their views. It was not directed at you, or at anyone personally. Sometimes we all need to sit back and consider the possibility that our own egos and self-righteousness cause us to direct our anger at the "sinner" rather than at the "sin".
James 3:17, But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.
Not a loaded question. I just would like to know.
