Parallels between Damien and Harry Potter (vanity)
Posted on 02/08/2005 7:04:41 PM PST by JFK_Lib
First off, I like both sets of movies and I dont think that Harry Potter is evil.
But I watched Damien, Omen II tonight and the parallels between these two characters, Damien and Harry, are uncanny.
Here is a list that came to mind tonight:
1) Both lost their parents when they were babes through violent and dramatic homicides.
2) Both are special people who have sets of protectors who consider him a deliverer, destined for greatness. While Harry is eventually to save his community from an evil wizard, Damien is to save the world from famine through the use of his Thorn industries.
3) Both have special powers that they dont understand until they mature enough to go to academies to prepare them for their greatness.
4) Both are whispy, pale, black haired boys with mop-tops and light voices. The only visual difference being that Harry wears glasses.
5) Both are adopted by uncles who later come to become antagonists when the boys learn of their true heritage.
6) Both develope antagonisms with their cousins who fear their powers, in fact both movies prominently feature a birthday celebration of the cousins birthday, while the main character is generally ignored by almost everyone else.
7) Bot have hostile academy student rivals that try to intimidate and entrap Harry-Damien, but Harry-Damien escapes by using their unknown powers to advantage over the rivals.
8) Both are celebrities among those in the know and they both win accolades at their respective academies through use of their powers.
9) But the contrasts are interesting as well: a. While Damien is surrounded by non-magical humans who are Christian and presume goodness around them, Harry is surrounded by witches and wizards and warlocks who simply do not address any moral issues. b. While Damien is threatened by Christians who are trying to frustrate the rise of the anti-Christ who wants to unite the world to serve him, Harry Potter is threatened by forces of evil who want to destroy the witches who wants to unite the witches to serve him.
If one makes a moral inversion and casts Christianity as evil trying to destroy the savior of the world in the form of Harry-Damien this 9th observation reverts from a contrast to another parallel.
Just interesting to think about.

Very good! Now have you ever noticed that Harry Potter and Sauron are never seen in the same novel together?
Doesn't that say something to you?
Hmmm...?

Typical masochistic tendencies.
Watching god-awful movies and then recounting the experience in a poorly conceived vanity thread.

Did you know Kennedy was killed in a limo made by Ford, and Lincoln was killed in a theatre named Ford?

They both have 666 on their scalps, but Gregory Peck was killed before he could shave Potter's greasy little scalp.

Didn't JFK sleep with a Nazi/Communist/British triple agent whose last name was Der Weiner Snitzel?

Yeah, and Der Weiner Schnitzel and Lincoln both had secretaries named Doris. It's positively uncanny!

And let me guess...one of the secretaries had a cousin who married a fellow named Potter?
