Prayer Thread -praying for the Pope
Knitting A Conundrum

Posted on 02/01/2005 3:25:06 PM PST by Knitting A Conundrum

Please join me in prayer for John Paul II. I am asking that we don't bicker, just pray on this thread. God bless.

Lord, You invite all who are burdened to come to You. Allow your healing hand to heal your servant, John Paul. Touch his soul with Your compassion for others. Touch his heart with Your courage and infinite love for all. Touch his mind with Your wisdom, that his mouth may always proclaim Your praise. Most loving Heart of Jesus, bring him health in body and spirit that he may serve You with all his strength. Touch gently this life which You have created, now and forever. Amen.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on the sick and dying.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

Most Merciful Jesus, lover of souls, I pray You, by the agony of Your most Sacred Heart, and by the sorrows of Your Immaculate Mother, to wash in Your Most Precious Blood the sinners of the world who are now in agony, and who will die today.

Heart of Jesus, once in agony, have mercy on the dying. Amen.

Watch Thou, O Lord, with those who wake, or watch, or weep tonight, and give Thine angels charge over those who sleep.

Tend Thy sick ones, O Lord Christ.

Rest Thy weary ones.

Bless Thy dying ones.

Soothe Thy suffering ones.

Pity Thine afflicted ones.

Shield Thy joyous ones.

And all for Thy love's sake. Amen.

- St. Augustine

O Father of mercies and God of all comfort, our only help in time of need: We humbly beseech thee to behold, visit, and relieve thy sick servant John Paul for whom our prayers are desired. Look upon him with the eyes of thy mercy; comfort him with a sense of thy goodness; preserve him from the temptations of the enemy; and give him patience under his affliction. In thy good time, restore him to health, and enable him to lead the residue of his life in thy fear, and to thy glory; and grant that finally he may dwell with thee in life everlasting; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

-- Book of Common Prayer.

Novena Prayer to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

O Most Blessed Mother, heart of love, heart of mercy, ever listening, caring, consoling, hear our prayer. As your children, we implore your intercession with Jesus your Son. Receive with understanding and compassion the petitions we place before you today, especially for the Holy Father.

We are comforted in knowing your heart is ever open to those who ask for your prayer. We trust to your gentle care and intercession, those whom we love and who are sick or lonely or hurting. Help all of us, Holy Mother, to bear our burdens in this life until we may share eternal life and peace with God forever.

MOST HOLY and afflicted Virgin,
Queen of Martyrs,
You stood beneath the Cross,
Witnessing the agony
Of your dying Son.

Look down
With a mother’s tenderness
And have pity on me,
Who kneels before you
To venerate you sufferings
And to place my request
With filial confidence
In the sanctuary
Of your wounded heart.

Present them,
I beseech you,
On my behalf,
To Jesus Christ,
Through the merits
Of his own
Most sacred Passion and Death,
Together with your sufferings
At the foot of the Cross;

And through the united efficacy of both,
Obtain the grant of my present petition.

I suspected he was intubated as well.

or trached, which is the more likely possibility.

Since it would be temporary, I think intubated most likely. I mispoke if I said I thought he might already have been trached.

Is any one among you suffering? Let him pray. Is any cheerful? Let him sing praise.

Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will save the sick man, and the Lord will raise him up; and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effects.

James 5:13-16

The Holy Father may be weary and ready to meet Our Lord.

OTOH, the media has been predicting his immanent demise for years.

May the Lord's will be done and may Il Papa find comfort and rest during this time of illness.

Merciful Lord, you sent your Son to be our peace.
Help all who suffer pain or grief to find in him strength and peace,
so that their trust in your promises may be renewed,
Lord, in your mercy...hear our prayer.

O God, the strength of the weak and the comfort of sufferers:
Mercifully hear our prayers and grant to your servants
the help of your power,
that their weakness may be turned into health
and our sorrow into joy,
Lord, in your mercy...hear our prayer.

Almighty and everlasting God,
comfort of the sad and strength to those who suffer:
Let the prayers of your children who are in any trouble rise to you.
To everyone in distress grant mercy, grant relief, grant refreshment,
Lord, in your mercy...hear our prayer.

Almighty God, source of human knowledge and skill:
Guide physicians and nurses and all those
you have called to practice the arts of healing.
Strengthen them by your life-giving Spirit, that,
by their ministries,
the health of all people may be promoted
and your creation glorified,
Lord, in your mercy...hear our prayer.

Blessed Lord,
we ask your loving care and protection for those who are sick
in body, mind, or spirit and who desire our prayers.
Take from them all fears and help them put their trust in you,
that they may feel your strong arms around them.
Touch them with your renewing love,
that they may know wholeness in you and glorify your name,
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God,
now and for ever.

O Saint Joseph,
Patron of the family,
protector of women and children,
guardian of the church,
how often I turn to you in times of need,
You, who God chose to be the foster father of our Lord,
You, of the kind and merciful heart,
who, when ashamed to be husband to our Lady,
would not make her a spectacle, either,
You, of the faithful heart,
who stood beside her all the way to Bethlehem,
and guarded Jesus and Mary
on the road to Egypt,
O Saint Joseph,
I love you for the example you set,
for the way you are so willing to help,
for your willingness to follow God's requests,
for having been there with our Lord when he was a child.

O St. Joseph,
tonight I turn to thee,
praying for your son's servant
John Paul,
who has fought the valiant fight for the glory of God.
Be with him,
intercede for his healing,
or if it is time,
walk with him
that last way,
until,
with our Blessed Mother,
you walk with him to present him to your Son.

Amen

This Lutheran is praying tonight for the Pope and for my Catholic friends. He is a good man who has accomplished much in his life and during his time as Pope. I pray for his recovery, if that is God's will.
