I think it's safe to say that this is a hard fact, at least here in the US. My in-laws would be a perfect example. Married almost 30 years with three adult children and the Church says there was never a marriage.

An annulment does not make children illegitimate. That has been a long-standing myth that is used in arguments against the Catholic Church and annulments.
