Prayer Thread - Meditation on the love of Jesus
Knitting a Conundrum

Jesus,
you who love us
beyond the ken
of earthly wisdom,
who calls us home
even
the ugly,
the aching,
the miserable,
the cast off,
the poor,
the selfish,
the self-righteous,
the uncaring
enough to die
for each and every one,
here, watching God's folly,
I fall down on my knees
and adore you.

O Jesus,
son of Mary,
son of God,
who knew the taste of dust
on the road,
the feel of sweat on your forehead,
the bite of hunger
at the end of a long day,
the weight of wood,
smooth under a carpenter's hand,
rough against the back,
the anger of a mob,
the betrayal of friends,
the loneliness of suffering,
evil done in the name of justice,
the bitterness of a shameful death,
and still you loved us.

O Folly of God,
love beyond compare,
Emmanuel,
remember us this day,
weak,
--be our strength,
alone,
--be at our side,
hurting,
--be our healer,
in need
--be our help.
Open our hearts to you,
you who are all love,
whose heart is big enough
to hold the whole world
whose hands wait to lift us up
whose love waits to heal us,
whose peace can transform us.

Amen.

Matthew 11:27-30

All things have been delivered to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and any one to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

Surely he has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
smitten by God, and afflicted.

But he was wounded for our transgressions,
he was bruised for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that made us whole,
and with his stripes we are healed.

All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned every one to his own way;
and the LORD has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.

Isaiah 53:4-6

Prayer to the Wounded Heart of Jesus

O my Most Loving and Gentle Jesus,
I desire with all the affections of my heart, that all beings created and uncreated,
should praise Thee,
honor Thee
and glorify Thee
eternally for that sacred wound
wherewith Thy divine side was rent.
I deposit, enclose, conceal in that wound
and in that opening in Thy Heart,
my heart and all my feelings,
thoughts,
desires,
intentions
and all the faculties of my soul.
I entreat Thee,
by the precious Blood and Water
that flowed from Thy Most Loving Heart,
to take entire possesion of me,
that Thou may guide me in all things.
Consume me in the burning fire of thy holy Love,
so that I may be so absorbed and transformed into Thee
that I may no longer be but one with Thee. Amen.

Matthew 9: 35-38
And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every infirmity.

When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest."

Who would have imagined
the bride price you were willing to pay,
drop by drop,
your own heart's blood,
spilled out,
a libation
spilled in pain,
sorrow,
triumph.

O Sacred Heart,
A lover's heart,
big enough to love the whole world,
with all its griefs,
and evils,
and sorrows,
and not turn away
in despair or disgust!

O Sacred Heart,
Source of all consolations,
you who would heal our every wound
through having been wounded for love of us,
and giving what we have no right to demand,
Bridegroom of a most unworthy bride
whom you clothe in dazzling white linen
woven from your own true love,
glory to you!
