What next ...? Preists in dog collars?Don't laugh. Back in 2002, there was such a case in the Diocese of Brooklyn. It involved Fr. John Thompson, pastor of St. Elizabeth (Queens) who celebrated Masses for the leather sub-group of Dignity known as Defenders.
When Barbara Samide, the principal of the parish school, blew the whistle on Fr. Thompson for stealing close to $150,000 from the school for expenses incurred in connection with his male lover -- a 19-year-old male go-go dancer who had lived in the rectory since January 2001 -- the erstwhile bishop of Brooklyn, Bishop Daily, had her fired.
