John the Evangelist on Patmos

John died around the year 100 at Ephesus. The son of Zebedee and the brother of James, he was "the disciple whome Jesus loved." He authored three (?) letters, the Book of Revelation and the most spiritual of the gospels, for which he is also called St. John the Divine.
