On the Nativity

Thank you Jesus,
for not coming to us in a palace,
waited on by servants,
pampered in cloth of gold
and surrounded by walls
to keep out those of us
not worthy to glimpse your perfection.

Thank you instead,
for coming to us poor but accessible,
laying in a cattle feeding box
for lack of a better bed,
in a hovel meant for animals,
where anyone could walk in
and see the miracle of
God taking on flesh.

Lord, teach us to value
what is really important -
As we celebrate the miracle of your birth,
and on this and every day of our lives.

Amen.

Please join me in prayer as we pray for each other and all those in need, for this is the season we should turn towards our Lord in gratitude and joy for the wonder of his incarnation, and join with Mary in saying, "My soul magnifies the Lord!"

Prayer ping!

Gaudete!

Gaudete, gaudete,
Christus is natus
ex Maria Virginae
Gaudete!

Now there comes the time of grace,
A gift unearned by longed for
let our hearts pour forth with joy
Our thankfulness to heaven.

Gaudete, gaudete,
Christus is natus
ex Maria Virginae
Gaudete!

God has chosen to be man,
this a thing of wonder,
And renewed will be the earth
that the Christ will die for.

Gaudete, gaudete,
Christus is natus
ex Maria Virginae
Gaudete!

Light has come into the dark,
Salvation to mankind,
Death's cold fingers cannot hold
He who is our life.

Gaudete, gaudete,
Christus is natus
ex Maria Virginae
Gaudete!

Let us all rejoice in song
the wonder of this day,
Lift your voice and praise him now,
Jesus, savior and our king!

Gaudete, gaudete,
Christus is natus
ex Maria Virginae
Gaudete!

(loosely (very loosely!) translated from the Latin 16th century song, Gaudete! But I think you actually could sing it to that song. At least I tried.)
