MISERABLE SERPENT BISHOPS JOIN WITH THOSE WHO CONDEMN MEL GIBSONS COURAGEOUS AND BEAUTIFUL EFFORT TO: Cardinal William H. Keeler Bishop Arthur J. Seratelli (Paterson NJ) Bishop John J. Nevins (Venice FL) Bishop Gerald Walsh (New York) Bishop John Nienstedt (New Ulm) All bishops of the USCCB FROM: The Roman Catholic Faithful, Inc. Recently, at the conclusion of one of your endless series of committee meetings (The Challenge of Mixed Marriage in American Life is Major Topic of U.S. Catholic-Jewish Consultation Committee), you issued the following statement:
The Consultation also discussed the state of Jewish-Catholic relations in the wake of the film, "The Passion of the Christ," which caused such deep and understandable concern within Jewish community world-wide. The film, it was noted, was in reality a modern version of the notorious medieval Passion Plays which so often over the centuries have triggered riots against the Jews of Europe. Happily, however, the film precipitated no such anti-Jewish violence. Rather, in many places it sparked discussions in which Catholics learned why Jews feared such dramatic depictions of the death of Jesus, and Jews learned that many Catholics today have taken to heart the teaching of the Second Vatican Council that the Jews collectively cannot be held responsible "then or now" for Jesus' death. It was noted as well that continuing work needs to be done among those who have not yet absorbed these official teachings of the Church.
Generally, we in the laity read your prodigious output of wordy, useless position statements and constant pastoral bloviating with a mixture of boredom and mild irritation. Occasionally, however, the U.S. Bishops come out with something that is so outrageous, so offensive, so truly malignant, that the laity cannot remain mute. And so it is with this, your latest piece of ecclesiastical drivel. When we consider your words, we must reflect upon all that you have given the laity during the past several decades; to wit:
- You have destroyed our precious liturgy and replaced it with a quasi-heretical and saccharine floor show.
- You have corrupted our children with poisonous sex ed programs.
- You have allowed our children to be raped by perverted monsters in the clergy and have done everything in your power to cover up these crimes.
- You have destroyed our beautiful churches and Cathedrals and replaced them with ugly churches that resemble aircraft hangars or cement factories.
- You have squandered billions of dollars on useless or harmful ministries that are little more than glorified havens for left wing activists.
- You have persecuted holy and orthodox priests and nuns.
- You have denied priests their right to celebrate the Traditional Latin Mass, a right which no bishop or pastor of the Church can ever take away.
- You have destroyed the faith of millions by promoting false catechesis.
- You have turned away worthy candidates for the priesthood because they accepted the perennial teachings of the Church or because they opposed homosexuality.
The collective evil committed by the American Bishops dwarfs any harm committed in the Enron scandal, yet none of you have been sent to jail. And now, when a man like Mel Gibson comes along and tries to glorify Our Lord with a movie, when he risks his personal fortune and reputation because Our Lord is despised by the World, you miserable serpents not only do not support him, but join with those who condemn his courageous and beautiful effort. Well, to you bishops, and to all the bishops of the USCCB, the Roman Catholic Faithful responds: The movie The Passion of the Christ has done more to uplift the human heart, to bring souls to Christ, to increase holiness, and to glorify Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, than all the USCCB committees, subcommittees, documents, pastorals, letters, faxes and speeches put together. "It's the kind of rhetoric that actually harms the traditionalist movement. It's no wonder that most bishops are compelled to keep traditionalists at arms length. The style alone reveals a malice that cannot be attributed to even a shadow of authentic Catholicism."
As if these bishops would have listened to him or any other of us.
If he grovelled and verbally kissed their proffered posteriors, it wouldn't make any difference. They have no concern about what the laity wants or what the Church has taught for the last 2000 years. They have their own agenda.

It's the kind of rhetoric that actually harms the traditionalist movement. Statements like this cause me a feeling of deja vu. Where have I heard very similar sentiments? Oh yes -- it's when the NY Times is telling the Republican Party how to win more voters by being "nicer." Strictly for their own good, of course. Simply trying to be helpful. And I'm sure that Karl Rove pays close attention. Just like traditionalists pay equally close attention when apologists for the current depraved regime (refer to article above) offer us unsolicited advice.
It's no wonder that most bishops are compelled to keep traditionalists at arms length.
There is no mystery as to why the bishops wish to keep traditionalists at arms length. They have too much to hide. They only want to associate with those who are no threat to their continued evil and malfeasance.
To: Maximilian
No, you don't have to be nice. But you don't have to be nasty either. The same points can be made plainly and strongly with a touch of anger and without the malice.
I don't mind such language from time to time when we are debating here on the forum, but I doubt the letter did little more than anger the bishops and probably ended up in the trash can.
I also thought the Bishop's comments about "The Passion" were neither supportive nor bashing, (due to the title of the post I was expecting far worse) and they even acknowledged that because of the film there was some positive communication between Christians and Jews.

"They have no concern about what the laity wants or what the Church has taught for the last 2000 years. They have their own agenda."If that's true than nothing we can do will matter.
To: rogator
They have no concern about what the laity wants or what the Church has taught for the last 2000 years. What the Church has taught for 2000 years is to love one's neighbor. What the laity wants, as represented by Mr. Bendell, has nothing to do with that teaching.

And I'm sure that Karl Rove pays close attention. I do believe Mr. Rove did pay attention. Well, he probably didn't need the NY Times' help. Was he not responsible for "compassionate conservativism"?

You are correct. There is no mystery.
They have too much to hide. They only want to associate with those who are no threat to their continued evil and malfeasance.
There is no mystery. Your statement clarifies.

"What the Church has taught for 2000 years is to love one's neighbor."
Why don't you apply that teaching to tradition-minded Catholics? Do only modernists qualify for inclusion in the "new civilization of love"?
To: rogator
They have no concern about what the laity wants or what the Church has taught for the l9*ast 2000 years. They have their own agenda.I know it is hard not to get discouraged and in a previous post I said I agree with his letter (I did mean the bulleted portion). I also said it should be sent to every B/bishop with an introduction that showed that the writer knew it was not applicable to all B/bishops.
To tar all the B/bishops on that committee, with the same brush is very counterproductive. Especially in light of the fact that what came out of that committee was not that awful. So the writer lends support to the claims of the "imposter" bishops because much of it is spiteful and ugly. The bad guys can smugly say to their brother Bishops,"see we told you how nasty they are".
It also affects the disposition of those many Bishops, who are fighting an uphill battle to save the Church in the U.S.A.,to no avail, from the looks of that letter. No one appreciates being blamed for things that they have not done.
The blind rage so many who call themselves Traditionalists display, only serves to demonstrate to many, that the the stereotype the other side has used to mock and denigrate them, fits perfectly. Effective warfare includes surprising the enemy, some Freeper's should try that every once in a while.

"...Only the supernatural forces of Hell could possibly have achieved what has been done here since then..."
Thanks for the well-penned post. I pray that your intuition is false, however.

My mistake, I recognized that earlier. Well, I am sure those guys still agree.
To: saradippity
You are right. Hopefully at least a third of these guys are decent folks.
It just makes me madder than a hatter to see the drivel coming from these USCCB "committees", when I and so many other Catholics have difficulty finding a Mass which actually seems like a Mass within less than half a day's drive.

The gates of hell shall not prevail. Have you heard of Pope Leo XII's vision, that the devil would be given 100 years to destroy the Church? It's over, by the way.

Are you saying we don't need the Mass and the Sacraments?

Have you heard of Pope Leo XII's vision, that the devil would be given 100 years to destroy the Church? It's over, by the way. That's comforting. But now someone needs to let the devil know. Apparently he hasn't been informed.

The Bishops in England were also in union with Rome at the time of Henry VIII. All it took was a bump in the road and that changed quite quickly.
One wonders if they same is in store for the American Bishops and who among them will be our St. John Fishers.

Great letter. I wish it were stronger. The Shepherds should take a few minutes from meeting with their P.R. men and limousine rides to read it.

A sad day when the so called representatives of the largest church on this planet choose to pick on 'The Passion of Christ.'
Well written piece .. this ex-Catholic enjoyed it very much. I have immense interest and love for the church of my early Christian training and pray often that it will right itself. I wish my church of old would pick itself up but it seems to be 'bloviating' more than functioning. Just as the news is only full of bad news, I also know that there is much good coming from those of this church as well.
God bless this news source for my Catholic brethren, and especially all of my Catholic brothers and sisters who may not be getting from their church what they need. Put your Christianity above the church and you will weather these storms that are upon you. I do pray for the Catholic church as it is in immense difficulty these days.
Your Christian brother,
God Bless,
William
