A Patriarch being 'subject' to Pope is something really, really new and unknown to the Undivided Church. Sort of like an oxymoron.
I don't think the Patriarch is 'subject' to the Pope. NYer, please could you clarify?

July 3, 1961: Confirmation of his election by His Holiness Pope John XXIII.
July 16, 1961: Ordained Bishop.
1961 - 1986: Patriarchal Vicar and Secretary of the Maronite Patriarchate.
April 19, 1986: Elected Maronite Patriarch for Antioch and all the East.
May 7, 1986: His Holiness Pope John Paul II entrusted him the "ecclesiastic communio" .
November 26, 1994: Created Cardinal by His Holiness Pope John Paul II.
1995: Delegate President of the Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for Lebanon.
