Posted on 11/21/2004 2:48:08 PM PST by atari

Im catholic, but I wasnt raised in a religious household.

Im totally clueless about most Protestant denominations especially, and If any would tell me the differences between them, or point me to a site that would help, that would be great. :-)

Your whole exposition sounds like a pep talk given to the executioners of the Inquisition before they were told to "Now get out there and root out these evil blaspheming heritical Protestants!"

Coo, so when someone gives a logical explanation that doesn't agree with your view, it's a pep talk to the Inquisitioners? Or is it that anyone who reads the Bible and doesn't jump to conclusions becomes Tomas de Torquemada?

Protestant churches popping up by the thousands all over Latin-America teach the true power of Christ and the people are forsaking their witchdoctors

Coo, and all the Hallelujahs and TV ads saying: "ooh, give me money so I can sit her on a golden Throne with my wife with big hair and ham it out with you" are really religious?

When Catholics are taught to seek Mary they are diverted from true religion which is faith in Christ alone. We do not denigrate Mary. Only the diefication of her. You will say you do not diefy her but you do.

Oh, so first you say we worship Mary. THen when we prove to you that we don't, when we repeat that we worship God alone, you tell us we don't know what we do.

So, are you saying we're liars or that you can read our minds or that you have some esoteric path? That coupled with what you say in the earlier post #223 If a papacy was on Jesus' mind it would not have been Peter at any cost. John was the stable one and the one closesf to The Lord.

seems almost delusional, to be able to read everyones mind -- even God's mind. hmm.... only God is omniscient remember and you are NOT Him.

When Catholicism took over in Rome, the way the Saints were celebrated was exactly the way they had celebrated the Greek Gods. They subsititued the gods for the saints. In fact the Catholic rituals and architecture of the churches were replicated from the Greek pagan religions.

Having said that, I believe despite such cultural and historical impacts, many Catholics are spirit filled Christians. I'm thrilled your faith is real.

Martin Luther did not have a problem with Mary. Why do you?

Luther had a problem with corruption in the medieval Church. He would not find that today. Mercy on the other hand seems to have his/her own track to God's mind.

Pure fiction, with no evidence to back this up. Unless you can produce an Aramaic book of Matthew, it's pure conjecture. The New Testament was written in Greek, and God isn't careless with His word. All scripture is God breathed. There is no other scripture to support Peter as the foundation of the church. None.

First you say Scripture is God breathed. That means that ALL of Scripture is Holy and accurate. THEN, you say that there is no other scripture to support Peter as the foundation of the church. But,if there is ONE verse that supports the teachings, by logic, since that ONE verse is God breathed, accurate scripture, it MUST be true.

So where to go for a dyed-in-the-wool protestant who loves the tradition and the sacraments?

What I do get from that question is:
  1. You appreciate the sacraments, the traditions, the piety of the apostolic churchs
  2. Yet, you would still carry along the baggage of anti-Catholic propaganda

In that case, I would say that unless you can toss away your pre-conceptions of the Catholic Church, you should turn to the Eastern Orthodox churches. While I don't agree with them on some points, I do acknowledge them as apostolic and not heretical.

You probably think Joan of Arc was a true saint. I think she was obviously a psychotic.

Oh, that's what YOU think? What would YOU think about Saint Francis of Assisi?

You're right. The corruption has been replaced with pedophilia.

That vile act by SOME priests -- by the same extrapolation, would you blame ALL White folks for slavery? NO. Similary, those vile persons who committed those atrocities shoudl be shamed, defrocked, hounded out of the parishes and handed over to the law. But the Holy priests that form the MAJORITY of priests should NOT be condemned by the actions of the few.

So, there are paedophile pervs from the US who go to South East asia. Should ALL Americans be condemned for these pervs?

Cooo, the architecture was the same as that of the lands the church settled in, huh? So, the White house with its GReek arches is evil, huh? Impossibly silly argument (not you, just that argument point).

The Saints were celebrated with a few days of orgies like Saturnalia? Or were there sacrifices made to them?

Google.

Results 1 - 10 of about 982,000 for church corruption. (0.07 seconds)

Results 1 - 10 of about 1,700,000 for church sex abuse. (0.09 seconds)

Don't let facts get in the way of your emotions.

That scripture refers to the confession of Peter, not Peter. It is in confessing Jesus as the Christ that people are saved, not confessing Peter. In Corinthians, the foundation of the church is referred to as Jesus Christ, not Peter. It's time to start worshiping God instead of men.

One prays, also for Intercession.

That is the Realm of All of the Saints. Canon Law refers to that in several instances.

I understand your need to believe in the

hypothetical construct that Y’shua spoke only Aramaic.

Because if Y’shua spoke only Aramaic

then the eisegesis of Matthew 16:18 can stand.

Yes; many of the Jews spoke the language of their captors

i.e. Aramaic.

But the Chosen People of G-d never lost the ability to read

and write the language of the creator of the universe.

When the Jews needed a new language for people to read

the Holy Word of G-d, they chose the language that everyone

spoke, the Lingua Franca of the world : Koine Greek.

Koine Greek was selected as the most precise language

second only to the language of G-d in precision.

Have a great thanksgiving day; we enjoy many liberties in Y’shua

His willing bondslave

chuck

To sell Christianity to the Pagans in the early centuries the 'church' adopted rituals and practices that are not biblical. Actually some of the error may not be Pagan but can be traced back to even earlier religions of the Greeks or Romans.

I wonder if you would elaborate on this for me?

I traced back to your post from one ping and several suggestions to you that you consider Orthodoxy. If you are interested in the Orthodox church please feel free to email me with questions or for links for parishes near you.

"Remember after Christ was ressurected, he was walking with two disciples that DID NOT RECOGNIZE HIM, even though they were discussing the scriptures that described the Messiah!

It was NOT UNTIL they broke bread together that it was revealed to them that He was Christ, the Son of the Living God!"

Is this REALLY what the Catholic Church has taught you, or is this just your understanding? If this is what the Catholic Church teaches, it is just one more example of why you cannot take what the church says without doing your own personal Bible study. Christ had not even been crucified, nevermind ressurected when it was revealed to his disciples that He was Christ, the Son of the Living God. That is exactly what Peter called Christ in Matthew 16:16 just before Christ called Peter the "rock" in Matthew 16:18. All of this was WELL before the Last Supper. So I ask you again, does the Catholic Church teach Christ's true identity was unknown until after the resurrection, or is that your belief?
