The Silent Cathedral
The Wanderer ^ | November 18, 2004 | A.J. MATT JR.

The bells were silent when the latest desecration of the magnificent St. Paul Cathedral took place at the Sunday noon Mass on November 7, after a group of militant, rainbow sash wearing homosexuals were allowed to commit sacrilege by receiving the Holy Eucharist. It was as if the angels charged with guarding the Cathedral had fled to avoid witnessing a sacrilege against Christ in the Eucharist about to be allowed by a successor of the Apostles, Archbishop Harry Flynn.

Truth be told, the steel frames holding the huge bells were found to be cracked and to prevent a possible dangerous crash, the bells were silenced a few months ago pending necessary repairs. Perhaps the bells’ frames had cracked less than six months ago when Archbishop Flynn allowed the sash wearing homosexuals to desecrate the Holy Eucharist on Pentecost Sunday.

It truly staggers the faith and is an affront to the piety of faithful Catholics to learn that their archbishop would allow public sacrilege against Christ in the Eucharist. And not only that, but what can one make of Archbishop Flynn’s absenting himself from the scandalous incident while forcing a young priest, only months following his ordination, to handle the situation? Has the Archbishop considered his possible violation of the young priest’s conscience?

The only public explanation given by Archbishop Flynn for allowing the rainbow sashers to receive Holy Communion is that he does not want the Eucharist to become the focal point of contentiousness and battle. But does yielding to aggressive groups who are willing to commit sacrilege constitute too dear a price to pay for "peace"?

Is it possible that Archbishop Flynn really believes that homosexual sashers are properly disposed to receive Holy Communion? It would seem that public advocacy of a gravely disordered lifestyle would be contrary to having a proper disposition, but if the Archbishop holds a different view he should have the integrity and honesty to publicly so declare.

In any event, the permissive attitude shown by Archbishop Flynn — and in some cases advocacy and outright support by other clerics and Catholic leaders in the Archdiocese — toward militant homosexual groups and individuals and their various projects and programs — often sponsored by parishes and other Catholic institutions — cries out for investigation by higher authority. The Catholic faith of the people of this Archdiocese is much too important to allow this situation to continue its anarchical drift.

Jumping jeebers on a pogo stick . . .

Sadly, I think the Catholic Church may be on its last legs. Between covering up for the homosexual priests coming in at the back door and now the homosexuals streaming in at the front door, We don't have very much credibility left. What was once a rock is now a pebble. What's next? Does the next Pope come out and say abortion is a.o.k.? Do American Archbishops sign on to do 'wrap the rascal' TV ad campaigns?

I admit that some of the pomp and circumstance of the Catholic church seemed like the nuclear detonation sequence ritual from 'Beneath the Planet of the Apes' but my faith is not wavered by what I don't understand. That's why it's called faith in the first place. Faith is taking a step into the great unknown while believing that you will be safe. I was born a Catholic and I have always been a Catholic. Even when I was 'away from the church' I always had a moral compass whose source was Christ. At some point, I could no longer resist the magnetic pull of Christ and I surrendered myself to God. That being said, I am not always a perfect Christian. I sometimes act in ways that are contrary to Christ's doctrine, but I also know that He is love and forgiveness. True contriction begins in the heart.

I am a Catholic because I believe in Christ. I believed that he was born, died, and was raised from the dead. I believe that Christ is the son of God and that Mary, his mother, came of virgin birth. Why do homosexuals want to be accepted into the Church? Do they believe its dogma? No, because they ceaselessly try to change it. Are they willing to submit to God? No, because they fight God's laws. So why is it that they want to join? They seek to pervert its very heart. Make it twist in the wind like every other institution. Some may want to join out of belief but, most are spiritual cyanide. As I would not welcome a burglar through my front door, I will not welcome these thieves.

I think that we should be sad for these homosexuals at best. They are so uncomfortable with their so called genetic destiny, they need others approval. They can not just accept themselves, they need some kind of pat on the back. We stand firm as sad as they are. Jesus said: Peter, Thou art a rock and upon this rock I shall build my Church. They are trying to inflict situational ethics onto God's law. If we give in, who is the bigger sinner?

Leviticus 18:22... "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination."

Leviticus 20:13... "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them."

No biblical indication of any such penalties being handed down...in the human realm, anyway.

I can not believe this. I really think Excommunication should be in order. I think I can understand where the priest is coming from in wanting to break down the walls that divide people during the Eucharist. But I am confident that no permission was ever sought after nor granted. I cannot believe some of the greatest sins that people commit are against the Eucharist. It really makes me mad and then very very sad that someone would not have respect for Jesus and the Church, much less the consensus of the doctrine. It pains me that some are acting like those who ordered Christ to be crucified all those years ago in their actions toward the Eucharist. May God forgive those who do this and may he bring them to the light of understanding of their actions.
