I'd like to ask for prayers for my brother. He's finishing his first week of Recruit Training in the U.S. Coast Guard, in Cape May NJ. He signed up for Delayed Enlistment nearly a year ago and was very excited to finally be able to go to boot camp. My parents, my fiance, and I are very proud of him.
His church pastor gave him a serviceman's New Testament that he had used decades ago, which my brother brought to Cape May with him. I have been praying daily for him to have strength as he goes through this stressful time. He left last Tuesday and his company went through "Forming" on Friday - this is when they met their company commander and began the "real" recruit training. This past weekend is supposed to be one of the most mentally challenging during the 8 week training period. He graduates the day before Thanksgiving.
He is my only sibling, and just turned 18 this past summer. We are quite close and I am extremely happy that he chose to enter the military. He was in the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps along with me since he was 10 years old. Right now he plans to be a "lifer" in the Coast Guard. He is a lurker here at Free Republic, and a fine young American. I am so proud to be a Coastie sister.
Please pray for him to have strength and perserverance as he goes through the next 8 weeks. Also, pray for his shipmates as they become a team and learn the necessary skills to be effective members of our military.
My prayers this evening for your brother and his shipmates.
Done.
Amen,........Infinite Grace and Mercy,........In Jesus' Precious Name, Amen!!!
Prayers sent. As the example of my nephew makes quite clear, the Coast Guard is good for a young man. Congratulations to him.
My prayers are with you and all our fine defenders.
I will pray Psalm 91 for him. And I'd like to thank him for his service and commitment to our country's protection.
Also, maybe he can memorize Psalm 121. It's given me incredible strength when I've needed it.
I'm posting the two Psalms (from the NIV) here in their entirety in case he reads my posting.
Psalm 91
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. [1]
2 I will say [2] of the LORD , "He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust."
3 Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.
9 If you make the Most High your dwelling-
even the LORD , who is my refuge-
10 then no harm will befall you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14 "Because he loves me," says the LORD , "I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him
and show him my salvation."
Psalm 121
A song of ascents.
1 I lift up my eyes to the hills-
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD ,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip-
he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD watches over you-
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD will keep you from all harm-
he will watch over your life;
8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.
I join you in praying for your brother. I'm SO proud of him for making this decision.
Our Lord WILL watch over him...
Offering my prayers for your brother and his shipmates in boot camp.
I lift him up to the God who made him - may he know that he is held in the Palm of God's Hand!
I lift him up to the God who made him - may he know that he is held in the Palm of God's Hand!
I truly believe we are in the beginning of the Last Days as foretold throughout the Bible.
I believe we are in the beginning of the battles which will lead to Jesus returning to this earth and the Battle of Armageddon. This is a battle between good and evil.
I think God is choosing the best of our young men and women and working His Spirit in their hearts to join His army.
Our military members are going to see the most severe challenges of any military in history, but they are part of God's army. They shall prevail.
I thank God for your brother and men and women like him who would lay down their life for us.
May the Good Lord bless him and keep him from harm's way.
I agree. 100%.
Prayers on the way!
