Luke 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. The NIV takes out "every word of God." There are many others complete passages missing. Lets examine. 1 John 5:7, Acts 8:37 and more.
The word of God is more important than necessary food. Job 23:12 Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.
Notice: I hate every false way. If it is not the word of God, but another version of what the word of God is supposed to be, discard it. Ps 119:128 Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way.
Jesus Christ is the Word of God was made flesh. Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
That same Word can been seen, heard and held in your hands. That is the Word that I want to be able to read. 1Jo 1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; 2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) 3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
This same Word is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
It is a good thing that, that Word is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart, because we need something wiser than ourselves to discern our wicked hearts and show us what we need to do. Jer 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? 10 I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.
That same Word leads us and guides us. That is the word that I want. I do not to be mislead. Pr 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Ps 119:103 How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth! 104 Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way. 105 NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
So the real question is this: Where is that Word? The Holy Bible says that word is here now. 1John 4:2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: is come meaning is presently here. Not past tense as in has come. Check that one in the NIV. The above verse is also talking about trying the spirits to see if they are of God. If any bible does not say Jesus Christ is come in the flesh then is not of God.

Question: what is the Word of God, e.g., what is included in the canon of Holy Scripture? How do you decide what is and what is not the Word?
Wrong forum ping?
I do not decide. God already deciced for us. He proves his word through prophecy.
Da 2:45 Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.
2Pe 1:19 ¶ We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
"I believe the Bible is God's inerrant, infallible, inspired Word"
How can two books be oposed to each other and yet the same "inerrant, infallible, inspired Word"? They cannot be! You have to admit that.
I like the New King James, m'self.
You are quoting from Scripture to define what is Scripture. Who put the words that define the Word, into the Word? Who decided the words that define the Word, would be in Scripture?
So the Bible existed from some ancient point in time, with all the books collected together, and was given to somebody fully assembled?
Were the books of the New Testament in the Bible from that same ancient time? Did the New Testament precede Christ, then?
Your mumbo jumbo is Greek to us. I'll stick with the version that is proven. The one the God used during the church of the open door. The Philadelphia church age that changed the world and gave us the United Sates Republic. Freedom of conscience, not state religion. Perhaps you desire bondage? I trust in the inherent word that I can see, hear and hold in my hands.
Such as the "Authorized Version" (What Brits call the KJV) used by the taxpayer-subsidized Church of England? ;)
You forgat freely given to the masses to this day. It is the only Bible without a copy write. FREE as Jesus!
Hi Geezer, interesting subject.
Whuff- (what if) somehow, a perfect manuscript turned up that could be proven to be older than any of the MS that were used in any of the New Testament translations? And whuff turned out to have a much different Gospel then we now have, would you be willing to throw everything you now believe up in the air, and accept it as Gods inspired word over all the others just because it was the oldest?
Wow, thats a long sentence. :) The point being, that the KJV is a comparison of many trusted manuscripts, and has withstood the scrutiny of time. We know most of the mistakes in it, and we work around them.
As far as Erasmus (this is the first time Ive heard this) being a secular humanist, Im not sure what that means, but it sounds to me like he may not have had a religious ax to grind, and that would make his translation neutral, which Id certainly trust over someone who tried to put his own theologies in his translations.
Im just finishing up a seven month study of Jerome and his Latin Vulgate, now you have me interested in our own KJV Bibles background.

Matthew 6:11 in the older Douay-Rheims Bible.
Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our supersubstantial bread.
