Double Major Feast of Our Lady of Ransom
Daily Catholic ^ | September 24,2004

Posted on 09/23/2004 4:27:59 PM PDT by AskStPhilomena

The Order of Our Lady of Ransom was founded in the Thirteenth Century by St. Peter Nolasco (Jan. 31) and St. Raymond of Pennafort (Jan. 23), aided by King James of Aragon. The object of the Order was to redeem Christians held in slavery by the Mohammedans. Pope Gregory IX instituted the feast of Our Lady of Ransom and afterwards it was extended by Pope Innocent XII to the Universal Church.

COLLECT

Dominus vobiscum. R. Et cum spiritu tuo.

Oremus. Deus, qui per gloriosíssimam Fílii tui Matrem, ad liberándos Christi fidéles a potestáte paganórum, nova Ecclésiam tuam prole amplificáre dignátus es: præsta, quæsumus; ut, quam pie veneramur tanti óperis institutrícem, ejus páriter méritis et intercessióne, a peccatis ómnibus, et captivitáte dæmonis liberémur. Per eúmdem Dóminum nostrum Jesum Christum Fílium tuum, qui tecum vivit et regnat in unitáte Spíritus Sancti, Deus, Per omnia saecula saeculorum. R. Amen.

The Lord be with you. R. And with thy spirit. Let us pray. God, Who for the ransoming from slavery of the Christians held captive by pagans wast pleased, through the most glorious mother of Thy Son to enrich Thy Church by a new order: grant, we beseech Thee, that she, whom we piously venerate as the founder of so great a work, may, through her merits and prayers, deliver us from all our sins and from the captivity of the devil. Through the same Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, Forever and ever. R.Amen.

Today, Our Lady of Ransom may be needed to redeem Spanish Catholics held in bondage by the leftist new government...

Interesting article - particularly the following paragraphs....
"Saudi Arabia is the kind of country in which an eighth-grade textbook teaches that Jews and Christians were cursed by Allah and turned into apes and pigs, and in which ninth graders learn that on the day of judgment, "a Jew will hide behind a rock or a tree, and the rock or tree will call upon the Muslim: `O Muslim, O slave of Allah! There is a Jew behind me, come and kill him!' "

It is the kind of country in which a guest worker from India can be arrested for leading Bible studies in his home. Brian Savio O'Connor was beaten and threatened with death unless he agreed to renounce his faith, Christian news services have reported. "My legs were chained and I was hung upside down," he told friends who visited him in prison. "My captors alternately kicked and beat me in the chest and ribs."

And it is the kind of country, let's not forget, in which Muslims, too, can be hideously victimized -- as when the state morality police, the "mutawwa'in," forced a group of teen-age girls to stay inside a burning school building because they were not wearing the head scarves and black cloaks that female Saudis must wear in public. Fifteen of the girls died; 52 were injured."

So much for hauling your ox out of a pit on the Sabbath.

It amazes me that some Catholic prelates think those animals worship the same God. The recent beheadings of Christians trying to help rebuild Iraq are further examples.

Those prelates are only following Vatican 2, which teaches that "muslims together with us worship one, merciful God".

This is another of Pope JPII's "orthodox" teachings. It disgusts me.

Compare the current pacifist approach with that of Blessed Pope Urban II, who at Clermont in 1095, before uttering that famous battle-cry "Deus vult!" (God wills it!) to herald the First Crusade, described the outrages suffered by fellow Christians at the hands of the militant Mohammedans:

"The [the Mohammedan Turks] have invaded the lands of those Christians and have depopulated them by the sword, pillage, and fire; they have led away a part of the captives into their own country, and a part they have destroyed by cruel tortures.... They circumcise the Christians, and the blood of the circumcision they either spread upon the altars or pour into the vases of the baptismal font.

"When they wish to torture people by a base death, they perforate their navels, and dragging forth the extremity of the intestines, bind it to a stake; then with flogging they lead the victim around until the viscera having gushed forth, the victim falls prostrate upon the ground. Others they bind to a post and pierce with arrows. Others they compel to extend their necks and then, attacking them with naked swords, attempt to cut through the neck with a single blow. What shall I say of the abominable rape of the women? To speak of it is worse than to be silent.... On whom therefore is the labor of avenging these wrongs and of recovering this territory incumbent, if not upon you?"
