Cardinal Roger M. Mahony was ordered today to turn over documents in the secret personnel files of Roman Catholic priests accused of sexually abusing children after a judge rejected his claim that prosecutors were interfering with Roman Catholic Church operations, in violation of the U.S. Constitution.
Superior Court Judge Thomas F. Nuss ruled that disclosing internal documents to criminal investigators doesn't violate the ability of the church to freely exercise religion, nor does it illegally entangle the state in church business. Rather, the state has a compelling interest in prosecuting child molesters, he ruled.

I apologize if it's a duplicate thread.
Cardinal Mahoney is covering up for his pedophile priests.
He and Cardinal Law ought to be tossed in jail.
Ping.
If you have a ping list, please ping this. Thanks.
ping.
But this also means that Doran in Rockford will also have to turn over files, as well as Egan in New York.
Put it all out there, let the chips fall where they may.
I'm a little frightened of the precedent, but I hope they get him good.
I'll bet Roger bought an industrial shredder when he erected the Taj Mahony.

The only way for the Catholic Church in America to survive this scandal is through full disclosure. To cover up a crime/sin is in itself inherently criminal/sinful. The Vatican has been remiss in not fully addressing this issue; therefore it becomes the responsibility of America's Cardinals and Bishops to step to the forefront.
The American Cardinals & Bishops are the ones responsible for this problem. Some participated in it, and many covered it up.
The Vatican itself has nothing to do with this. Each Bishop knows what his duty is: in civil law, in canon law, and ultimately before God.
Due to some covert investigations, Rome knew of the situation here some 20 years ago. It told the Bishops here to deal with the problem - to throw out the trash! Instead, they swept it inder the rug.
Please do not blame the Holy Father for this! He has tried repeatedly since 1978 to get the American Bishop to be obedient, and to return to the faith. If they disobeyed overwhelmingly in that, it is no surprise that the scandals have happened.

Raj is going to J A I L.
I don't know if even his buddy Riordan can bail him out of this one.
Are you in the L. A. Archdiocese? My pity to you!
The buck stops in Rome. The Pope can make and break bishops with the stroke of pen.
Thank you for the ping, sitetest.
I am in the Archdiocese as well! That is not one for the brag box, either! Just a sad fact!
I can see why Mr. Mahoney is dragging his feet; they have estimated their potential losses from the suits at $1.5 billion in LA.
He can start by selling that blasphemously ugly moment to himself he calls a Cathedral.
