It does not sound like she was not allowed to take communion but that her parents insist the 'communion' be of invalid matter (rice). She could still take the cup.

Thanks for the ping on this one.. my daughter has celiac disease and CANNOT have any food that contains wheat or she would get VERY ILL... this is NOT a food alergy.. it is an AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE... for a celiac eating glutten is the same as eating POISEN... the body treats GLUTTEN as such, and is very harmful to the digestive system..... there IS a way to make GLUTTEN-FREE bread, and IMHO, the chuch should make the exception..
