8-year-old's first Holy Communion invalidated by Church

BRIELLE, N.J. -- An 8-year-old girl who suffers from a rare digestive disorder and cannot consume wheat has had her first Holy Communion declared invalid because the wafer contained none, violating Catholic doctrine. Now, Haley Waldman's mother is pushing the Diocese of Trenton and the Vatican to make an exception, saying the girl's condition _ celiac sprue disease _ should not exclude her from participating in the sacrament, in which Roman Catholics eat consecrated wheat-based wafers to commemorate the last supper of Jesus Christ before his crucifixion.

"Would you please go away! This is a family matter."

No. Who the hell are you and why are you allergic to an intelligent response?

You don't think so. You don't know so. When the Church teaches about this stuff, she is a stickler, because she doesn't know so.

Where can I find these intelligent responses here? I mean aside from the faithful catholics who accept one truth and not 30,000 truths.

"O go away. We know you don't believe in the Real Presence."

My concern is that YOU don't based on that remark.

"I think it had a moon roof to accomodate praying in the "orans" position, right?

I think a peritus told me that once."

Was that the peritus who worked for Yugos as a panel beater?

Or maybe I'm mixing him up with the ones who worked with stone. I think they called them masons.

God's abilities and characterizations aren't limited to a book written by man.

I see...So the Bible is not a book of Christian doctrine divinely inspired and free of error?

The momma can't accept that the Precious Blood is the body of christ. She needs to be corrcted.

She's been corrected. Some priest is not using his head. Maybe momma's got a problem with the alcohol, in which case the grape juice option is available.

There are still pieces missing from this story. Maybe momma's working a power play against the Church.

All you are doing is spouting. I could go on all day about the Baptist custom of using grape juice instead of wine, but what is the point of that? I know that to Baptists Holy Communion is merely symbolic. We, at least I,am not going to argue the point you are trying to raise.

No, I accept Christ on His terms, as written in the Scriptures--it is the RCC's terms that I reject.

Christ said of the pharasees to do exactly as they tell you to do, but do not be hypocrits as they are. They were the authority.

What is your point? I am being hypocritical, or the Vicar of Christ does not have the authority, but you do?

My point is that anyone impies that a child has to take a wheat host to receive their first communion is being hypocritical to Christs message. It would seem that a child with this 'life and death' problem should easily be allowed to have their first communion with the wine/juice alone or a substitute non-wheat bread. If not, the church is being 'very' hypocritical.

What's amazing is that people in this thread think that God actually CARES about such trivial minutae.

Amen!!

" human generated BS that nourished the Protestant Reformation."

Thank God for Martin Luther and the Reformation! I'm glad to not have to pay the local church money for repentance of sins!

Gee, the Eucharist always generates an 'animated' discussion.

The Christian charity is always impressive.

Post #2 covered the problem raised by the girl's medical condition.

Christ founded a Church, one Church. He did not say you guys are on your own and make it up as you go along and revolt against me in the 1500s and rewrite the bible and pretend you each can interpret your own way and still claim to obey Me?

But yet you are interpreting that a deadly 'wheat' wafer is the only way this little girl can receive first communion ... think about it, "what would Jesus do?"

Why doesn't momma just sue the Church and force the Courts to make us recognize whatever they say as the Body of Christ.

I feel for the girl, but she can still partake of the wine, or who knows, even a small grain of the host?

Sorry Catholics, my relationship is between me and my Lord, not thru some hiearchy of robed 'holy' men.

That's real nice. Feel free to have your relationship elsewhere.

It's very sad how obsessed you Protestants are with us. For the most part, we couldn't care less what you or your dying sects do.

Go ahead and refuse to do what Jesus commanded all men to do. See if I care, but you will, in the grisly end.
