Would like to know if there are any other Christians out there that have not swallowed Rick Warren's version of the Gospel. I left my "seeker-friendly" Church after much prayer and ponder, and it took several months to make the split. I still must speak with my former pastor about this, so until I do, I will not name my former Church. I have noticed that most who follow the "Purpose Driven" material are emotionally attached to it, much like true Christians are emotionally tied to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Please look at this that you posted! Please show me what I even said to warrent such a response! What was it that I said about Warren's book? I did not really give any opinion on him or his book. I only made an observation of the harsh statements and attacks on others.

I do have enormous trouble with what APPEARS AND SOUNDS TO ME LIKE VERY INSIDEOUS INFECTION from the pit into your thinking and even into your feelings--perhaps especially into your feelings about Warren's efforts.

It just appeared/sounded/sounds like there's something greatly lacking in loving the Lord 'with all your heart, mind and soul' IF THERE'S SUCH OPPOSITE EVIDENCE in your attitude, stance toward brother Warren. It seems to me that if you loved The Lord deeply and broadly as you assert--THE LORD would have been more successful at getting you to see the merit in Brother Warren's mission and ways of carrying out his mission as unto and before The Lord.

I was pleasantly surprised by the book. The book is a great statement of the Sovereignity of God. Not seeker friendly at all. The first sentence is, "It's not about you" A seeker friendly approach would not include this statement.

I suppose I have a bad habit in the RELIGIOUS discussions.

When a group of individuals array on one side of an issue and seem to write rather exclusively from that position, I tend to respond to any of them as though I were responding to all of them.

Not sure how easy it will be to change that habit but I'm willing to work on it.

I caught Jimmy Swaggart for about two minutes one day while channel surfing. He is very much against this book, that settled it for me - the book has to be good. I looked up the sentence on page ___ JS used to bash this book and he used half of the sentence and still twisted it.

There seem to be those who do like the success of this book the same also speak against unity of the body and preach this unity is the great deception to come drivel.

I read the book, it was good and has Christ centered purpose.

Of course the KJV only'ers don't like this book, it uses other bible translations and even heaven forbid paraphrase bibles. Everyone knows Jesus used the KJV and the Holy Spirit is really a ghost.

These folk study the KJV a lot and have a large head knowledge of scripture but it never goes any further. You can talk about any biblical topic with them and it always gets back to the KJV being the only true word of God and the importance of correcting other Christians, with their doctrine of course. The other big thing is don't be deceived by this or that, but they don't look in mirror with that thought in mind. It is really sad, instead of being about Christ and the unity of His body, it is turned into the doctrines men and even devils.

Yes, that's true. But anyone who actually uses the original intent of Scripture doesn't like this book. Rick Warren is as sloppy with his theology as Benny Hinn, Tommy Tenney, and Paul Crouch the Father Of Them all. Boy, Benny Hinn found his niche market too: Sick People who are desperate for healing and gullible enough to be duped into sending money. And boy has his church grown! Must be doing something right!

Your scorn for the Word betrays your infidelity to the Crucified and resurrected Lord. There is none that seeks after God, no not one. We have altogether become worthless. I don't hear that much in Warren's books, can't go against Papa Schuller's teachings about self-esteem (self esteem? "Woe is me for I am a man of unclean lips!" (Jeremiah) "God have mercy on me, a sinner!" (tax collector justified according to Jesus in Luke 18:13-150

And what about Rick's "Global Peace Plan"? the Church is going to solve all the world's problems? Sounds more like AntiChrist to me.

JESUS SAID those not against Him were with Him when the disciples started finding fault with those not doing it quite to their prissy standards. Jesus rebuked them soundly.

You hit the nail on the head with this statement Quix. It is absolutely true! Some insist they are "walking the walk" while they treat those they consider "sinners" with disrespect, if they address them at all.

True. Acceptance of any particular congregational pattern, mentality, construction on spiritual reality, detailed parochial doctrine etc. is not a litmus test of authentic Christianity.

Neither is rejecting what Holy Spirit is doing through Rick Warren a litmus test of super spirituality.

Prissy-ness perhaps, but not super spirituality.

I suppose one could imagine all kinds of things based on Rick Warren's words. But pretending that his clear emphasis that it's NOT about you to = it IS about you is an incredible 180 degree perversion of what Holy Spirit is saying through Rick Warren.
