Purpose Driven or Purpose Drivel?
The discerning side of my mind
Posted on 07/26/2004 1:57:27 PM PDT by Lasher
Would like to know if there are any other Christians out there that have not swallowed Rick Warren's version of the Gospel. I left my "seeker-friendly" Church after much prayer and ponder, and it took several months to make the split. I still must speak with my former pastor about this, so until I do, I will not name my former Church. I have noticed that most who follow the "Purpose Driven" material are emotionally attached to it, much like true Christians are emotionally tied to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

>> No, brother, sometimes it doesn't.
But sometimes it does! (Gal.2:11-13)<<
Exactly my point.

Actually, they go back to the original text. Check out the explanation for the net bible in Bible.org
I know the King James isn't the first. Neither is the model T. But it was the first "popular." And I consider no translation "perfect" compared to other translations. ALthough I do consider some just plain flawed, like the Readers Digest version, for example.
The King James is just one of many accurate translations, and someone needs to translate it into understandable english.

What are you, a black is white kinda person?
THANKFULLY
THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY knows very well that I'm on His side of that issue.
Not sure when He'll convince you. But He will.

I suspect Bonhoeffer might have some exhortations and cautions for Rick Warren, But I have no doubt he'd be thrilled with his ministry in and for The Kingdom.
He'd probably applaud his small groups while wishing they were more potent, intense, fiercely and aggressively about maturing the saints vs a slower gentler approach.
But then, he might realize that many would unnecessarily fall by the wayside if they were not yet ready for an intense group and were forced into one. Bonhoeffer, of all people, recognized that God had/has His timing for each of us and for each of our stages of growth into His likeness.

I find your comments off the wall and totally unrelated to my walk
IN THE LORD'S SPIRIT.
BTW, have you ever led a successful deliverance session with a true satanist? I have.
I encourage you to be very cautious about what you accuse residing on the enemy's side. If the individual or source acknowledges that Jesus The Christ came in the flesh and the rest of the basic doctrines of the faith and that Jesus The Messiah is their Lord; that they are doing their best to walk daily, circumspectly and humbly in The Lord's Holy Spirit--accusing said person or source of being of the devil is very hazardous business, indeed.

I'm reminded of the Pharisees so eager to stone Jesus because
Jesus The Christ; King of Kings and Lord of Lords
was not pure enough, to their standard.
BTW, which sized stone bucket do you prefer--I'd guess the largest available.
And which color stones do you prefer--black?

And, that will be happening again in many congregations before the end-times are finally concluded.
Some groups in China and elsewhere have practiced such out of love and some out of necessity already.

The KJV
is NOT perfect.
It's wonderful, but NOT perfect.
Teaching otherwise is a mistatement of fact--wholesale.

I've said it several times.
NOT surprised your bias screen hinders comprehension.
Many Chinese have little patience for Christian information of almost any kind. If they are going to consent or be open to reading any Scripture, it is WISDOM--HOLY SPIRIT WISDOM--to use a version which will attract them to read a lot rather than to throw it in the trash.
Probably 98.9% of them, if given only a KJV, would toss it in the trash and never read another Christian book the rest of their lives. Further, they could consider all Christians to be looney toons stuck in the KJV era hyper ventilating over archiac language and archiac ideas--of obviously no use to them in modern life.
In effect, the KJV would have resulted in their being innoculated AGAINST SCRIPTURE AND AGAINST GOD AND AGAINST CHRISTIAN LIFE.
This is not rocket science. It's very basic logic. It's also Holy Spirit wisdom and about 15 years worth of experience in China.

The Pharisees were also great for flinging labels onto others--especially onto Jesus and the disciples. Then the disciples, being humans, got into flinging labels onto others spreading the Gospel because they weren't part of the disciples' group and weren't doing it THEIR way.
Jesus rebuked them all.
I get the impression that throwing black labels at folks helps you feel more righteous and more secure.
Sad that.
I'd think you'd want your security in the Blood of Jesus and in your walk with Him.

Don't you people have anything better to discuss? I have read the book and I can't see anything that would lead me to believe it's anything but biblically based.
Heres a fella trying to draw attention to the Lord for persons who otherwise just float along in life and all you theologians can do is find fault.
What works for one person, may not work for another, but in the end isn't the object to the GREAT COMMISION, to draw attention to God through Christ Jesus?
I for one think when Rick Warren gets to the gates of Heaven, the Angels and all the company of Heaven will rejoice that he will be joining him.
Oh--one last ditty! None of us are perfect and the PDL may not be either, however if just 1 person is brought into the Kingdom because of this book or the 40 Days of Purpose program, it's worth it.
To: Quix
Are you dodging the question of Rick Warren's heretical teachings by insulting the KJV only crowd? I believe that would fall under "style over substance" or "ad hominem."
See any UFO's lately?
